2017 ATS Premium Performance Question on order type

Looking at a 2017 4 door Premium Performance and curious what this means, Order type 90- SPEC+EVENT USED CAR (CVMS USE). Is this a plus or negative?

I really don’t know for sure, but sounds like it may have been used at some sort of event. Whether that was in like an auto show or a performance driving school I have no idea. Neither of which I would want to own a car that was involved with.
Hopefully you can get some clarification.

I googled that. Others are asking also, but there doesn't seem to be a clear answer.

By special event, it could be in a car show circuit or it could be the events where you get lunch and a test drive.
If any things like that, look it over as if it was a used or courtesy car. Consider the miles and the discount you can get.

There are not many Premium Performance cars available, so it might be an opportunity, if the price is good.

CVMS is simply the acronym for GM's corporate vehicle management system. I believe order type 81 are usually the GM exec cars which will get up to 6,000 miles before entering the used car system while order type 90 is a broad category including car shows, "ride and drive" events, etc. and I doubt if you will be able to get exact information about how this particular car was used. It could have appeared at car show events, as a courtesy car at an event, or have been used to demonstrate at shows.

In general if the mileage is low and the discount is large it is worth considering but otherwise I would pass. It is quite possible the dealer doesn't know the exact history either but many dealers may be more than happy to fabricate an enticing tale.

There was a mini-scandal a number of years ago when a dealer tried to sell several "actual Indy pace Corvettes"; what he had was several of the show cars that were there for parade laps and display but he was promoting several of them over a period of months as being "THE" actual pace car that ran during the race. I am pretty sure attorneys became involved before that was over. A bit of "puffery" has long been accepted in advertising and sales but flat out lying is a different matter.

I test drove one of these GM corporate builds before buying my ATS - I have to say it was in super good shape and was obviously well take care of (could have passed for new); probably never saw a pothole in its life. I ended up passing as it lacked the winter package and was silver w/chrome wheels and had a spoiler (yuck!). I'd say if the car meets your specifications, it's probably the better car to buy than a comparable non-courtesy build.

Steve,
With 135 miles that is likely to be a good deal if the price is right. You can find "new" cars that have been sitting on the lot for awhile with mileage in that range.

My choice was the Premium Performance in white or the Premier Luxury in Silver Moonlight but really that color did not do anything for me. I remember when white and black were the basic colors now white is a 995 option

WOW, only $2200 off msrp for a ‘17 with 135 miles and something that may have been used for some event? Don’t walk away from that deal, run!
I remember my dad bought his 2014 premium 3.6 awd new when the 2015s were on the lot. He paid 38k for it brand new. I don’t remember msrp, but he must have been somewhere in the teens below msrp!!

The OP is in FL, so they may feel the RWD will be popular there, plus maybe they got it recently.
If a dealer has had it for a year or RWD in Canada, then they might be more interested in unloading it.

Sometimes a big discount can be part of a big trade in allowance, a courtesy car, prior year, using a bunch of dealer bonus
certificates, needing a sale to reach quota, etc. A dealer near me advertised 6 bonus certs on any 2017, while they last.
Add a $3k discount, plus Loyaty, plus GM points and it can go over $10k. Then they say the GM 0% can't be used on that.

Cadillac dropped leasing on 2017s on Nov 1, as they usually do at that time. They they brought leasing back a week later
with 10% less residual. You can probably get a lower payment buying a 17, rather than leasing it, at this time.

Look at percentage off MSRP, not just the actual numbers.

If a new model is out, and there are other models from the previous year, use a baseline of 20% off as the expected price. (or at least 15%). Best time to buy is actually the week before Christmas.

My 2014 was a customer order where the customer backed out so it sat on the lot for 2 months, not much call for a RWD premium with summer performance tires in central IL in February. It was equipped exactly like I would have ordered and the steeply discounted price plus incentives sold me. I generally order all of my vehicles and this was the first car I purchased off the lot in 25 years but it only had 11 miles on it.

If you time it properly custom ordered cars can be had at a decent discount because the dealer generally doesn't have to worry about it sitting on the lot. When I ordered my Z06 they were selling briskly but I got 9% off MSRP and another $4,500 in rebates and incentives and then applied $3,000 from my GM card vehicle discount so it worked well. Of course now that the Z06 has been out for a few years the discounts are even better. I am hoping the discounts on GM pickups are looking decent in the Spring and I have my build ready to place an order as soon as the dealer gets hungry enough.

Checked it out and did buy it, got almost 13k off and dealer paid for the majority of the GMPP Major Guard 7/70000 $0 ded. Reason is lost almost 1 year of factory warranty since the warranty started 12/2/16 when it was in the Tampa International Auto Show which ran from 12/2/16-12/4/16. Also came with only 3 months onstar guidance instead of 1 year but dealer paid for an extra year. Car in great shape and had 143 miles on it, Upon checking had 6 miles on it 12/2/16 and 139 when I looked at it, dealer purchased it from GM after the show. My only question is on all the papers it states as car in new. I thought since the warranty started almost a year ago and onstar only gave 3 months it would be considered used, dealer said since they bought it at the show it is considered new but if it had gone from the show to auction then bought it would be used. ???
