My question: Can the ON-Star equipment be replaced in 2014 XTS with newer equipment from a 2016-2018 XTS or can the equipment be purchased from suppliers on the Internet? Who could activate?

Have you tried On* or a good Dealership? But, to hazard a guess I think there might be more involved module wise than just the On* equipment.

If you have Apple Carplay or Android Auto, can't you use Google Maps for navigation?

Android Auto and Carplay weren't added until the 2016 model year.

My CUE navigation still works after onstar went off line. I don't believe the resident navigation (if your car is equipped with it) is dependent upon On Star.

The GPS in my 2014 still works, but the traffic and weather features don't since they can't get live updates now that 2G has been disabled. My understanding is that there is an option through SiriusXM to get traffic and weather updates but honestly I just use Waze on my phone since I prefer it over the GPS in the car so I don't pay extra for that upgraded service through SiriusXM.

Same here, my resident CUE navigation still works and I do have the siirus XM traffice and weather that still works. I think it's $5.99 per month.

Good morning, XTS GUY the Weather Traffic is a separate service with SiriusXM, if you have Sirius, you should be able to subscribe.Good Luck.
