2014 XTS CUE Navigation Module Removal Procedure

I own a 2014 Cadillac XTS no longer under warranty with the dreaded CUE screen spider webbing problem. Even though the screen was spider webbed on about 20% of the right side it continued to function properly for several months but then some of the functions near the bottom quit working and eventually it stopped working all together right before Christmas and now I need to do something. I tried the dealer when the spider webbing first started to see if they could help since it is a widespread problem with the CUE screens but they told me no assistance was offered by Cadillac and it would be around $1500 to replace (they told me they replace the entire module not just the screen as other people have noted on this board). So I decided to purchase the CUE screen and replace it myself. Unfortunately I cannot figure out the best way to take the CUE module out. Someone on this forum mentioned the Crux Interfacing procedure but there seems to be several steps left out. Someone also on this forum mentioned buying 24 hours on repairprocedures.com for $10 but if their procedures are anything like the one for replacing the cabin air filter it will be hard to understand and more complicated than it needs to be. So I was wondering if anyone has done the CUE module removal on the XTS and would be willing to share their simplified procedure with me and other Cadillac XTS owners? Seems to be a lot of youtube videos and writeups for the ATS, CTS and Escalade but nothing for the XTS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 2014 Cadillac XTS CUE Navigation Module Removal Procedure

Well I figured it out, the key is you need to remove the ashtray which requires a lot of disassembly of stuff you won't think necessary. Here are steps:

0.!) Almost forgot 2 steps, remove the black CUE trim plate right below the storage bin, it is held in place by 4 clips and is a bitch to get out, no recommendations here, I basically decided if I broke it I would buy a new one with what I saved doing the work myself. But it didn't break, surprisingly it took a lot of abuse without any harm. Mine was held in so tightly, 2 of the clips stayed in their receptacles and did not come out with the trim piece.

0.2) Remove the floor console extensions on both the driver's and passenger's side, move seats all the way back, gently pry, they are just held in with clips.

1.) Remove the transmission shifter knob, 1 clip as shown in the document on Crux Interfacing, the clip is shorter on the passengers side, just use a small screw driver at the end of it on the short side to slide forward a bit so you can grab with a needle nose pliers, then pull up gently while prying a bit on the plastic trim and it pops right off, don't pull too hard though, as there is an electrical connector on it that you'll need to remove

2) Remove the console wood trim piece behind the shifter (just gently pry up)

3.) Remove the console bin liner (6 screws), I didn't disconnect any of the electrical connectors, I just flipped it on the side and layed it on passenger's seat. There are 4 screws under the rubber tray at the bottom and 2 under where the wood trim piece was that you removed in step 2/

4.) Remove the cup holder (4 screws)

5.) Remove the forward ashtray (3 screws and electrical connector)

6.) Remove the silver trim around the center air ducts (4 clips, just pry gently)

7.) Remove wood trim piece on the right side (5 or 6 clips, just pry gently)

8.) Open passenger's door and remove the end trim piece to disconnect the electrical connector that goes to the air duct (just pry gently)

9.) Remove the right leather trim piece (gently pry, just held in with clips and watch the wiring going to the air duct). The silver strips come with it, there is one clip on the silver strip behind the ashtray.

10.) Remove the center leather trim piece with ignition start button (gently pry, just held in with clips). The silver strips come with it, there is one clip on the silver strip behind the ashtray. I just moved it to the side and did not disconnect the electrical connector.

11.) Then you can remove the 6 screws holding in the CUE module and disconnect the 3 electrical connectors and it comes right out

12.) There is an excellent youtube video here showing how to replace the screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZzC3CGrtpQ. I bought the blue trim removal tools I think he uses in the video at Harbor Freight for $9, they worked great.

Re: 2014 Cadillac XTS CUE Navigation Module Removal Procedure

Saved, thanks. Mine was replaced once under warranty and I'm good 'till '21 but one never knows. The procedure in the service manual is so lengthy and convoluted I knew there must be some shortcuts (verified by the dealer tech that did mine). For instance, the shop manual tells to remove front seat.

Would be awesome if someone did a write up with pictures... my wife has a ‘13 SRX and I have a ‘13 XTS our screens both stopped working at nearly the same time. I did hers last night 1/29/18 no prob (screen from Aliexpress $250) with
the write up on this forum plus the above YouTube video of the screen replacement. SRX is fairly simple. Would love a write up on the XTS with pics or even better a video!
