It's official 2014 CTS will get a 3.6 twin turbo option 420 hp.
If that's an option on the CTS, I can't wait to see the CTS-V engine!!!

But this also pretty much confirms that the ATS-V will get that 3.6L TT engine, right? Or is it already official?

I really want a V8 powered ATS-V coupe... :(
That would make it a real M3 killer.

i have a feeling that many will end up in car-vs-tree / guardrail etc etc. there will be a big second hand mrket for sure. it amazes me how much power car companies put into the hands of everyday people these days. we for the most part are enthusiasts and drive accordingly , but many of these will go to people who will get them from wives / husbands to go to the office or grocey store. once you get a cocktail in and add a bit of rain... watch out! man , there was a time where guys had to build massive motors to get 420hp, its crazy what they are getting from these v6's. i wish i could afford one !

It really is crazy man. That V6 twin turbo on the standard 3rd gen CTS has more horsepower and the same 0-60 time as a 1st generation CTS-V with a vette engine in it. It's unbelievable.

The same could be said about 60s and 70s muscle. Like it or not, plenty of the HO models or various muscle cars went to people who had no interest in power, no experience in driving fast, and no idea that there was a beast under the hood. A major difference between muscle cars and modern sports sedans is ABS, Traction control, Stability control, optional AWD, better tires, accidental lane change avoidance, blind spot awareness, variable ratio and speed steering, launch control, etc. Power isnt the problem with modern cars. The biggest problem is that modern cars hide their actual speed very well. The CTS V6 isnt a beast, but you can do 100mph easily and the car feels very stable at those speeds. It offers innattentive drivers a false sense of security.

The 2.0L Turbo4 in the new Mercedes CLA45 AMG makes about 350 hp, or about the same as the LS1 V8 in the 2004 Corvette. Specific power figures just keep improving. I agree, too, with the V8 ATS-V. Idlove to see an LS7 ATS-V.

How is it unbelievable? Single and twin turbo 6 bangers have been cranking out the power for a while now. It's nothing surprising.

I know someone my dad works with who has a twin turbo typhoon running 8.5 sec quarters, just to add on to your statement the power is definitely there for a v-6

People were making 1000 hp V6 turbos before most of us were born. I think you miss what he means. Cadillac is offering a 420 hp V6TT from the factory with warranty. Before this engine, the only way to get over 350 hp with warranty from a TT6 was the Nissan GT-R and its VR38DETT. On top of that, its entirely possible the V6TT in the ATS-V assuming it gets it, could have 450 hp. The BMW M3 will almost definitely have 420 and they notoriously underrate their high performance engines. Cadillac is breaking ground with this engine, afaik.

so who is going to do the first twin turbo swap in a 1st gen cts? lol
Im guessing it would be much easier to just twin turbo your existing engine.

I need to see it in person. I got all excited about the "new" retro-themed Mustang back in 05, and was sorely disappointed that the car IRL didn't live up to the pics.

...Plus, I'm with cmj - I'll probably be in line for the 3rd gen CTS just in time for the 4th gen to come out...

Exactly. You got what I'm saying... ^^
I just find it crazy that we can now buy from the factory a car with 420hp coming from a TT V6, without it even being the highest end model or insanely expensive. Sure, a TT V6 getting 420hp isn't breaking world records, but previously with Cadillac and other luxury performance cars, to get those numbers from the factory you had to get their highest end model with a V8...like the 1st gen CTS-V.

It just shows how much progress has been made...the level of what's expected from a relatively bargain performance car has risen so dramatically over the years. That's what I'm impressed with.
