2013 EXT buyer's advice?

Driving 150 miles to look at a 2013 EXT Luxury with power steps. has 108,000 miles, pulled Carfax and looked good all service was done at a Cadillac dealership. Everything looked good on the Carfax.

He bought it with 22,000 miles on it in 2016 and owned it until his death I think he was 79 when he bought the car.

So since I have never even seen one in person what should I be looking for and most important what should I expect from a car that's almost 10 years old.

Prices are crazy these days and KBB and NADA prices are lower than a lot of people are paying.

Carfax says $24,130. Kbb is showing $24,284 and NADA is $24,525 they are asking $25,500 so I guess it's what ever I want to spend and how much they will come down. I'm thinking even in this day and age their asking price is a little high.

I want to make an offer but don't want to make them mad at a low offer.

To your point about asking price vs KBB, NADA, ect.. the cost will always be what your market will bear. For example I'm from the Seattle area, the cost of a truck in Jacksonville is about as relevant to my area as the cost of a truck in London.
The best way to get a good sense of the current market is to look at a bunch of similar things. In real estate they call this comparables. I'm a big fan of looking at at least 3 of of the same vehicle. You mentioned driving 150 miles so I'm guessing you don't have a bunch of EXT's around so you might have to stick with online research. I'm explaining this because I was selling cars back in the 90s when only dealers could get the blue book. They are informative guides, but at the end of the day you can't force someone to sell something to you for a price that they don't like.

Yes they are very few 2013 around here I live in the mountains of North Carolina, this the only 2013 could find there are a few on the dealers lot up north but not much to pick from. I really like the look and could use the power to pull a trailer and at 72 I would like to pamper myself a little, since we don't drive a lot I guess I can put up with poor milage and expensive gas it's always going to be one thing or another, looks like a Ranger AFM disabler is in order I don't want to mess around with the computer any more than that.
Appreciate the reply, Ernie

Keep in mind you're about to look at an almost 10 year old unit, and with over 100,000 miles; stuff galore can go bad, and impending repairs can soon make what seems like getting Big SUV that once cost about $70,000 new for $25,000 even a more pricier venture that you may be anticipating.

The Power Running Boards go bad. $1700 per side to repair
Rear Seal is notorious to start leaking about now $3000
Shocks are gonna be going soon too . . . Depending on which suspension it has, and or service suspension messages pop up, another high dollar repair
With any luck the tires are still good - if not - another $1,000

Things can Quickly " Escalate " ( pun intended ) just to keep things running right

The 2013 is already 2 generations old now and whilst its still an Escalade - its starting to look "old" compared to the newer body styles

So you gotta ask yourself . . . Is this all worth it ?

YES.

Even a plain Tahoe of the same year and milage is commanding $25,000 in this crazy used market now . . .

So you might as well get the Big Luxury Branded GMT900 platform if this is what you truly desire.

Good Luck on on EXT Hunt (y)

Looks like everything is working right now and yes it can become a money pit, it's in the shop right now getting new front struts it's on their dime not mine but I do expect to put some money in it, going to go ahead and replace the rear shocks so they will be new all around, good part is I do must of my own work.

Post a few pics when you get it, and good luck with it. ;) I've been looking for an EXT myself.

I had found one in Texas. I was notified of the new listing, then checked on it at the dealership, but it sold in one day. It had 39k miles, and being from Texas, it should have had no rust. I may never manage to find/buy a low-miles, no-rust EXT, but I'm gonna try, haha.

I've been shopping nationwide. If/when I find something interesting, I use a service called "Lemon Squad" and for a couple hundred bucks they go out and do a very thorough analysis of the vehicle. They test drive and take tons of pics, and then email me a huge PDF file. Really a terrific service and it lets me buy from anywhere with a pretty good comfort level. Then I simply get the vehicle shipped to me.

Yours (pics below) looks pretty darn good!! 🤞 Best of luck with it.

Yeah, ^^^^^^^^^^^^ I am in Northeast, and I have a '03 Silverado which I just adore, but the rust is winning the battle. Too much salt on the roads and GM's rustproofing leaves a lot to be desired. I have a buddy with a 12-year old full-size Lexus, always driven in Northeast, and we had it on my lift last week... still looks GREAT underneath, almost zero rust. GM needs to steal some of those rustproofing secrets from Lexus!

@mt.man511 - how does that truck ride and drive? Those are the 22" wheels? Is the ride harsh with them, or is it tolerable, or you don't even care??? ;)

Good morning, before I bought it the owner had new shocks and springs put on the front, no aftermarket stuff real gm parts. The 150 mile ride home was great and I was surprised of how smooth of a ride it had even with the 22 inch rims I think 20 inch would have been the way to go but it does ride very good. much better than you would expect from a pickup, with 107000 miles I plan on replacing the rear shock also. This thing is heavy and have to remember that in curves and breaking. Step on the gas and listen to the beast go to work it will put a smile on your face.
