My tank will not fill. I have replaced the gas canister and gas canister solenoid with GM factory parts but still the tank cannot be filled. I have made certain the exhaust hose which exists the gas canister at the forward end of the canister that vents to the atmosphere over the drivers side rear wheel area is clear using compressed air. This hose has a factory plastic screen at the end which is clear having no debris present. The vapor hose from the tank to the filler cap is clear. The gas return hose from the gas canister to the tank is clear. Is there an internal check value of some type inside the tank that is a serviceable part that is preventing the tank from filling? Have any of you guys ran into this problem before knowing the cause and the fix? I appreciate any help you can give. The tank is GM part number 22744668
Thanks, BC

I took our SRX under our GM extended warranty to our local Cadillac dealership and they installed a gasoline Evap canister solenoid on the front of the gasoline Evap canister. Calling me to come pick up my car that the problem was fixed. I picked up the car pulling into a gas station on the way home to fill up the tank. To my astonishment it still would not fill up, the problem was still present. So I made a U turn taking our car back to the dealership shortly after just picking it up. The following Monday the dealership called informing me that I needed a new gas tank which was not under warranty and that it would cost in excess of $700 not including labor to install it. And that the tank was on back order not knowing when it would be available! So I arranged to pick up our SRX to drive while waiting for the back ordered tank which had an estimated arrival date at the dealership of the 12th of never! Later that day I watched quite a few YouTube videos showing many GM cars and trucks having the same filling problem at the pump that I was experiencing. The majority of the time the filling problem in those videos was remedied by changing out the gasoline Evap canister for a new one. So I did just that by installing a new GM Evap canister myself at home over the week end which my local GM parts store had in stock. Once the Evap canister was installed I drove to my local gas station hoping that changing out the Evap canister had fixed the filling problem. Wrong! I still could not fill the tank in the normal manner. At this point I took our SRX to an independent authorized GM Service Center which was not a Cadillac dealership. The independent GM Service Center called me the same day I dropped the car off for inspection saying they had found the problem. It turns out they ran a Snap-On specialized camera down the gas filler neck. Finding there was paper debris lodged on top of the factory screen built into the filler neck. This debris prevented gasoline from passing through the screen into the tank. The independent authorized GM Service Center removed the debris and the tank filled in the normal manner at the normal speed. So it turns out I did not need the gasoline Evap Canister solenoid the Cadillac dealership installed, a gasoline Evap canister I installed personally or a new $700 plus non warrantied back ordered gas tank recommended by my local Cadillac dealership. Only the paper debris removed from the filler neck screen in order to fill the tank in the normal manner as intended! Needless to say I was not pleased with my local Cadillac dealership. And this Cadillac dealership's General Manager was not pleased with his Service Department once I stepped him through all that had transpired from start to finish. Thank God we still have independent GM Service Centers in this county that are authorized to do warranty work!

Wow, that's a pretty crazy little tale. I did not know cars had screens in the filler neck. Wonder what the point is of that? Also got to wonder how the heck paper got in there? The other curious thing is I would have thought paper would disolve in gasoline. Thanks for posting, this will surely help somebody else out one day. Congratulations on figuring it out.

Had the same problem when my srx was new, I asked the dealer to try a camera down the filler, but they assured me that they knew what the problem was.3 times I picked up the car, and three times I took it back, because I couldn’t fill up. After 3 days they finally put a camera down the filler, and found a beer bottle cap, problem solved.I wasn’t charged for everything they changed but I had to pay for the bottle cap removal. Sound strange, but true

Now here is a paragraph I am not about to try to read.
