Is anyone using an Escort max/max2 radar detector with their v coupe? I just got mine and the rear window is pretty small, I have heard the lower the better chance of detecting laser.
Where do you have yours mounted on the windshield?

From my (lack of true knowledge) but extensive reading on the topic, a laser jammer is the only way to combat laser. By the time ANY radar detector alerts on a laser signal, it is too late, you already earned a ticket. I had a real world experience with this, and yes, the laser alerted at the same time I saw the officer "shooting" the laser signal. I was nailed. It was more like an after the fact punctuation point (gotcha) than a warning.
Place the detector in an optimal place for "radar" detection and don't worry about laser. Radar detectors like to be as "high" in the car as possible.

^^^ what he said.

I just got a MAX for my V-Coupe and handed my 9500ix to my wife.

Additionally what has been discussed on the radar detector forums is that while the MAX is pretty impressive for radar, especially Ka band, it is almost blind to laser. Worse than most.

For radar, the MAX performs better than the 9500ix, but the 9500ix has better laser detection, which as stated really doesn't matter. The Redline is King among the Escort line, but it lacks the GPS filtering and as a result can be a bit chatty in urban areas like the Valentine 1.

I read that the reason for Max's poor laser performance is that it only has one laser diode whereas other detectors use multiple diodes. Again, it's up for debate whether it really matters.

I have mine mounted just below the left side of the RVM. Kind of in the area to the left of the OnStar buttons and below the left side of the mirror. From line of sight I think the rear facing antenna still has a view out the back glass, but I really wasn't worried about it.

I have been contemplating getting a separate laser jammer, but depending where you live, it may be illegal.
