Depends on what you mean by "better." If you want better stopping power than you'll need a big brake kit as mentioned. I've bought 4 kits (standard size) from Brake Motive and had nothing but great results. Their kits are drilled, slotted, and zinc coated. There's some debate over the quality of drilled rotors cracking but I've never had it happen on 3 different vehicles (4 sets total). The zinc coat ensures they don't rust and look like crap on your nice ride. $235 for front and rear rotors and pads. I love the sporty look and they stop great (won't grab like a big brake kit though).
BBk's don't and should not grab. Best 1st thing you could do is install SS Braded Hoses. Every one thinks BBK's stop quicker / better, yes to a degree, it depends on many factors. When I spoke to several BBK dealers, they all said the tires are the biggest factor. Now if you are on a track and or really beating on the brakes, a BBK will help tremendously with preventing brake fade, same goes if you pull a trailer. If the tires lock up, abs takes over.
Ummm, a quality BBK will make your truck stop better and quicker. No doubt about it. Go put some Yugo brakes on your truck with the best tires in the world, and let me know the results? . But, yes.. Quality tires do help with traction and stopping the vehicle as well.
Yugo brakes are not really a good comparison.
I think the best way to put it, is to have brakes properly sized for the vehicle. Too little and you won't stop. Too big and you are just pissing away money. While I agree that SS lines are a great upgrade, I think the best, easiest, and cheapest upgrade is to run some high quality brake fluid. Start there and do a complete flush and you will notice a difference in your braking.
I'm running a +1 kit, with SS lines, and Motul 5.1 fluid and I'm pretty happy. I spent considerably less than a big brake kit. *MY* only issue right now is I went with full ceramic pads. I don't get the bite that I would with different material, and I'm considering switching to Hawk pads.
