We have a 2011 CTS V with 31,000 miles. A few weeks ago the seat back fell off the driver seat. When we looked at it we saw that 3 of the 4 plastic pieces the clips insert onto are broken. The seat back was being held on by 1 clip. We searched and learned the seat back part is no longer made. You have to buy an entire used seat. The only used seat we found was 2 seats for $1500. We can't buy just 1 or just the seat back. The seat is the standard CTS seat - not a racing seat. In looking at maintenance records we see that in 2015 when the car had 20,912 miles it went in for service because the release on the driver seat wasn't working. The technician confirmed the complaint, removed the seat back and lubed the latches. We believe the technician broke the plastic pieces at that time. We certainly never removed the seat back and it was never removed since then. No one ever sits in the back seat and the car is rarely driven. The dealer will not accept responsibility. Does anyone have any idea why else the plastic pieces would break? Does anyone have any suggestions about where we can get the part we need?

You really can't complain about what a dealer did over seven years ago. The clips may have been broken back then or they may have just fatigued from heat over the years. Time to scour the internet for parts or maybe a junkyard. Remember, the regular CTS seat is identical to the V seat.

I would say tinman's suggestion to find a used one is going to be your only option since the part is no longer available. I don't know where you're located, but the u-pull-it junkyards in my neck of the woods almost always have some CTSs in the inventory.

I was thinking epoxy and some rare earth magnets, the gorilla is good stuff but i find the adhesive softens when it gets hot. looks to me like the attachment points are the 4 round posts ??? perhaps the barbs pulled out and are stuck in the seat? be useful to have a pic of the back of the seat

You can see the 1 intact clip is at the bottom left - you can see the metal clip is still in place. The counterpart to that one on the lower right is broken off.

And I think the other 2 points are the rectangular bits about 1/2 way up the back, just below and wider than the round posts. Looks like those should also have the metal clips on them, but they're broken off.

The large rectangular area at the lower portion of seat back has the same area on the seat frame, possibly use heavy duty Velcro on seat back and frame. Slip the top latches in and swing seat back in place, held by the Velcro. Thick 3M double sided tape would work but be a PITA to remove later. You may need to pad area out some to get mating surfaces close enough.
