I've seen rodent severed wires, they're usually jagged and unevenly cut. That's a hole bundle fairly straight cut. My guess is they offered to fix something you didn't ask them to check and you said "No" and they "fixed" you. It's not necessarily the shop, but one deviate on the payroll.

Doesn't look straight like from wire cutters, I would expect the individual wires to be cleanly cut and show evidence of wire strand pinching from the force, not with the wires splayed. But the picture may be inadequate.

I can't say it's impossible, but in all my decades, I can't think of anything small enough with sufficient jaw strength and the patience to be that neat. The catalyst is said to be vegetable oil based wire insulation, but this looks nothing like the wires I saw snipped by a rodent, the ends looked more like they had been torn apart and the insulation was clearly chewed lengthwise along the wires.

Agreed, doesn't look very rodent-like. Chafing?

I know the picture isn’t very clear, but trust me, it’s a clean cut with all the strands bent in the same direction. There was nothing near the cut to rub on. This was done with cutters.

That is insane.

Where was the cut located in the engine compartment. There are two things I can think of that would explain it: it was too close to the oil filter canister and they cut it to make room - unconscionable but maybe what happened; or if it was located lower down in the engine compartment, it was cut when they removed the bottom aero shield to access the oil drain plug. I've seen dealerships rotozip holes in aero shields rather than take the time to properly remove and reinstall them.

my meaning was that I didn't think either of those were "an issue" just that they had a lifespan...and I thought 230K miles would be beyond that lifespan...

I concur that the mounts, while definitely having a lifespan which is dependent on several factors, are not an issue with our cars.

The gen 3 vacuum-operated motor mounts appear to be more durable, time will tell.

I wouldn't put it past a shop to have cut the wire. There are some shady shops out there, always have been, always will be.
Back in college, I needed 4 tires for inspection. But with what I made, and college expenses, I couldn't afford 4 new tires. I found a shop that sold used tires, and I could afford the price. I went and looked at all 4 tires before they were mounted. All were worn about 50%, but otherwise fine. No damage. I had them mounted and balanced and I was on my way. On the subsequent drive home, I noticed there was a balance issue. This wouldn't prevent getting the inspection finished, so I went to the shop that did the original inspection and they looked at the 4 tires and measured the tread depth for the inspection report and I passed the inspection. They didn't even move the car, just measured the tread in the parking lot. When I had the chance to be near the shop that sold me the tires, I returned and they rebalanced the tires (no charge) and they seemed fine after that.
Months later, I develop a leak on one of the tires. When the tire was pulled, the shop said my repair was failing because I used multiple plugs in a hole that was too big to have been fixed with a plug. WHAT?!? These tires had no plugs when I inspected them and nobody else had access to the tires off the car except the shop that sold me the tires. The only explanation was that the shop that sold me the tires swapped one for the bad tire when I returned for rebalancing. I never would have bought the tires had I known they were going to install one with a plug in it. But due to the time to failure, I had no way to definitely prove the shop switched tires on me.
