First post. I just bought this 2010 STS. I really enjoy the car. It has HID low beams (D1S bulbs). They have that nice light blueish hue to them, but the fog lights are halogen and have a yellowish look to them.
I'm replacing the light bulbs since it's 5 years old now and I'd like to keep the HID light blueish hue for the low beams and replace the fogs with silverstar zxe H3. I didn't want to spend the money on and HID conversion kit for the fogs.
I'd like to replace the HID low beams with new bulbs. I've read alot of different suggestions from google but Id love to hear it from you guys. Do I just replace the D1S bulb or the whole balast and assembly? These were recommended to me, D1S Osram Xenarc 66144 CBI (35w and 5000k).
What are your thoughts? Thank you in advance

You'll be disappointed. I tried using them in various cars over the years. They have never lasted me more than about 3 months in any car I've put them in. You'll be spending time and money constantly replacing them.

You only need to replace the lamps. You can do the ballasts too if you want as they are only rated for a 2000 hour life but I've never seen any evidence that replacing them early provides any benefit with output.

The CBIs are good however I went with a different set of lamps that are a newer model D1S lamp made to compete with the CBIs.

These are the lamps I picked up. I have a set installed in my parents SRX and it made a huge difference over the lights it had. I've got another set in my basement waiting to go into my STS once it is warmer out.

Thank you Ludacrisvp... I appreciate the feedback.
I checked out your link from retrofit. If I choose them, is that just replacing the lamps? or do they come with the ballasts too? Do the D1S: Philips 85415XV C1 Extreme Vision have a blueish hue to them like the factory ones?
What do you suggest I use for the fog lights then if not silverstar zxe?

Those are lamps only.

Yes as they are basically 5000k so that is higher than stock 4300k which pushes it into the whiter / bluer light color.

I would replace them with HIDs. I did a fog light hid retrofit.
At the time of this thread the C1 extremes weren't out.

Thank you again.
I'm going to order those lamps from retrofit.
If I need ballasts, where would I get those?
Which HID conversion kit did you buy for your fogs? Will it match the color of the HID low beams?

I didn't exactly buy a conversion kit ... I replaced the fog light projector with the morimoto mini h1 HID projector that is of a headlight replacement quality. But yes they match if you get the same color temps typically.

Ballasts for D1S lamps are usually more expensive and all you can really get are OEM replacements. Probably from Amazon will work if you can find them. They won't be cheap. Otherwise TRS probably sells them. I wouldn't worry about it unless you need to get one when one fails. They don't typically fail unless they get water logged.
