Greetings,
I did search this forum but could not find my answer.
I have a 2008 STS with Bose sound and the front passenger door speaker is squealing, screeching, and distorting even when the radio is not on. It is awful sounding. then the bass is muffled. Can I assume the speaker is blown, or is there is a bad amp in the door speaker? Or Is the amp and speaker all the same part?
Where do I find the correct OEM replacement and what am I looking for? I would like to have to remove the door panel just once. Thanks

As far as I know, ALL STS have Bose systems.
Do you have NAV ?
It makes a difference, Some have the Amplifier in the trunk,
and some have Speakers with a chip on them to amplify.
Do you have speakers in the driver, and passenger seats ?
My Drivers Speaker does this, once in a while, When it is HOT !
When it's COLD it works Great. It needs a NEW Chip.
I would love to know the ELectronic number of the chip, to fix it.

Then yours is like mine, the variable Line level goes to the speaker,
AND the chip in (ON) the speaker amplifies the signal.
The other guys, have an AMP in the trunk, and use
regular speakers in the doors. TX to 1BadCad
I know you don't want to hear this, but pulling BOTH
speakers, and plugging the passenger into the drivers side
will tell you a lot of things,Not permanent, but as a TEST, only.
Test benching that speaker will require a lot of labor !
I'M guessing but if "MY" chip is bad, maybe yours is also.
Happy Motoring

I haven't searched hard, lacking the need, but there used to be speaker repair/refurb services available. It's not uncommon for them to specialize, but only materials change. Most bigger cities have a cadre of audiophiles that cherish the sound of vintage speaker designs and repairing a high-quality speaker of 20 years ago can be cheaper than many new audiophile speakers.

What does the Bose door sub or run lately? A replacement for our '98 STS was going to cost $275 and the refurb was like new for $125 (w' exchange).

EChas3...in Cedarburg... Cool.
Thanks, I will research speaker repair. I was searching stereo repair, but places I searched had closed. I will search speaker repair. I saw something on ebay , I think it is the replacement OEM for $144. I need to open my door panel to see what mine looks like
