We bought a new remote and programmed it with the manual instructions. Starts the car and unlocks it. Also got it to program in the memory set radio stations I want. Yeah!! But no matter what we try we are unable to get it to program the memory seat, wheel and mirror positions when the unlock is pushed. What can we do to program this that I am missing?

It ticks me off to no end that these car companies shove all this tech down our throats weather we want it or not. Everything has do be so damn complicated. Cadillac has sold out and doesn't care about the older generation who doesn't want this crap.

What Driver is the new fob programmed as? The fob has to be programmed as #1 or #2 to save memory settings such as seat and mirror positions. When you start the car you should get a message at startup on the DIC stating Driver #: and the label (if configured) for that driver.

Only remotes #1 and # 2 can set presets. Any added remote becomes #3 and above which won't set presets. You need to use the procedure that reprograms all the remotes and numbers your remaining remote and the new one #1 and #2. All remotes are the same electronically so it makes no difference what it may say on the case. The first programmed becomes #1 the next #2. The procedure is tricky. Be sure that all remotes not actually being involved at the time are out of range. If you have a problem, come on back and we'll set you straight.

I figured it had to do with that. The remote was programmed as #4 I believe. It didn't give me a choice. But the odd thing is the radio stations are programmed as I set them for this new remote. Is there any way when I do the reprogram that I could just do this new remote, but have it program to #2 instead of 4?

I presume this is the process that has 3 ten minute cycles? If so #2 states to "place the unrecognized transmitter into the pocket". At this point all of the remotes are recognized at least to the extent of unlocking doors and starting the car. Is there something else I need to do first to clear them? Thanks.

You consider yourself the "older generation" at 54? Holy crap man! I'm older than you and still consider myself young and impetuous! (note the avatar) My mom is the "older generation"! At 88 she still drivers her 265hp V-6 Rav4 Limited like she stole it.

You're on the right track. In the pocket in the console put the fob you want to be #1. The procedure will clear it and make it #1. Make sure the rest of the fobs you have are out of range. Follow with remaining fobs making sure the recently programmed fobs are out of range.

Hello...

Per my experience:
Keep in mind that 'out of range' may be much farther than you think.

PS...what condition is your battery? 30+ minutes is a long time. Make sure headlights, radio, and AC are turned off.

The message center is reading "ready for fob 4" then "known fob".

I inserted what we want as #1 in the slot. Then did the unlock with the hard key 5 times and these are the messages. I don't see any other directions of how to proceed. It should say ""OFF/ACC TO LEARN". Any ideas?

Almost no chance. We bought it local and the previous owner was local southern PA.

Like I said a few entries back, I was able to program my new remote that I just bought. But it is recognized as key fob 4 and I cannot program my favorite settings to a key recognized as #4. Now also when I attempt to do the total re-program as you suggest, the first thing that comes up on the screen is "ready for fob 4".

The manual clearly says to place the new unrecognized transmitter in the pocket. Problem is the car can tell that it is already programmed.

The problem you now have is that all your fobs have been recognized so when you do the key thing with a fob in the slot the system reverts to method one. There is a procedure in the repair manual that requires a TECH2 scan tool that can be used . Unless you have a friend with a TECHII you must go to a GM dealer to reprogram the fobs.

As I said in the beginning, tech to the point that you spend hour upon hour on something so stupid, that you either have to deal with more and more stuff that doesn't work, or spend hundreds at the dealer. What a car company!

I thank you for you help sir.

I went another direction, collected all the books and tools, and do my own work. No one else has worked on my '06 STS since the warranty expired.
