Good day to all, first timer here and have just a few questions. Just within the last month it seems my wife's car is falling apart and wanted to know if these issues are normal wear and tear after 5 years and just over 100k miles or is this just the longevity i need to except from the Cadillac brand, i planned on buying a new model this summer but these issues have halted my plans. First issue is a terrible clunking noise and groaning like a dry bushing from the left front while braking....and only when braking, suspension components seems fine and no issues while going over bumps or rough terrain. Complete 4 wheel brake job was done approx. 8 months ago. Both front brake calipers are extremely loose to the touch, it seems the caliper pins that go into mounting brackets are worn. This issue really brothers me because of the safety factor, Is this possible just after 5 years? Second, there is a terrible clunking noise when coming out of park to reverse and from reverse to drive. There is also a vibration while accelerating. Third, there is a rattling noise coming from the exhaust...like the catalytic converters are busted or something. I've already had the timing chain replacement done, lumbar motor in drivers seat replaced, power steering line replaced, numerous light issues and so on. Just trying to figure out if this is what to expect from Cadillac craftsmanship cause I've never had this many issues in such a short time with an other automobiles. Thank you for your inputs.

Hello CoreyB,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing these concerns with your SRX. Have you had any of these concerns diagnosed or looked into by a Cadillac dealership? If you haven’t but plan to, I would be happy to assist you in setting up an appointment. Please feel free to private message me with your name, contact info, VIN, mileage, and dealership that you have been working with. If you are not able to private message me, you can also reach me via email at socialmedia@gm.com with “ATTN GREG” in the subject line. I hope to hear back from you soon.

1. First issue is a terrible clunking noise and groaning like a dry bushing from the left front while braking....and only when braking.
Sounds like lower control arm bushing failure - common issue, need entire LCA.

2. Both front brake calipers are extremely loose to the touch, it seems the caliper pins that go into mounting brackets are worn.
Sounds like they may have mixed up the pin placement as the top and bottom pins are slightly different but they will fit in the wrong holes.

3. there is a terrible clunking noise when coming out of park to reverse and from reverse to drive.
Not sure on that one. Doesn't sound common to me.

4. There is also a vibration while accelerating.
Possibly the transfer case chain if AWD model. If not then I'm not sure.

5. there is a rattling noise coming from the exhaust...
I had a broken heat shield on the passenger pipe near the footwell that was fixed with a hose clamp. The STS at least has a TSB on it.

Corey, just my experience: the same SRX can be a good reliable vehicle, or a real dog, depending somewhat on your expectations and previous experience. If you have been driving Japanese cars, then you will be disappointed in the Caddy. On the other hand, American and German cars (even the mighty Benz these days) are about on par with the Caddy for reliability. In my experience, the GM drivetrains are usually pretty bulletproof (SRX V6 timing chains possibly excepted) if you don't mind fluid leaks. Electrics are generally good. Bodies, chassis, suspensions, materials, fit/finish are still far behind the Japanese.

The above comments from ludicrisvp are good. The brake caliper pins are notorious for rattling really hard if not heavily greased; and they definitely can be mixed during installation and make it worse. The groaning, if it occurs as a constant noise during a level straight stop, could be the brake pads/rotors - what brand of pad was used and were the rotors turned, etc? The driveshaft uses rubber flex discs rather than std u-joints; and also a center support bearing. My Mercedes front disc gets pretty sloppy at about every 100k and develops a bit of clunk. The center bearing is famous for inducing an acceleration vibe when the bearing support rubber weakens. My SRX has 82k, and shows no symptoms, but I kinda expect it to if the Benz did. Wasn't there a bulletin out on the cats? Can't remember the details.
