Cheers all, I have read a lot of very interesting advice and thoughts on this, but still need a little nudge.
If I understand correctly
2007-2010 will go in my 2008 with some programming/unlock/marry but
2011-2012 is harder to program/unlock/marry but is possible with a little tomfoolery on the VIN.

Thanks
STLJ

I just successfully swapped out my nav unit in my 2008 Escalade. The 2008 is the only year known to have issues with a nav unit upgrade, regardless of year. For some reason the 2008 BCM unit does not like newer nav units so if it's not programmed correctly the BCM won't let the newer nav unit work. A member on here, Dsminva, did the programming on a 2014 unit that I bought. I installed it and it worked perfectly. You can read about it in this thread (it's 8 pages long but it's got A LOT of great info about uprading): http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-escalade-ext-esv-forum-2007/654106-what-needed-install-2013-nav-unit.html

You can also check out my how-to on the nav unit install and usb upgrade (2010 and newer nav units have usb): http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-escalade-ext-esv-forum-2007/679489-2008-nav-upgrade-usb-install.html
