Sup all,

Looking for some thoughts on a higher mileage 2008 Escalade. What are some common problems, long term issues, etc? What maintenance would I be looking at with the miles already at 80k? Tried looking for a 'buyer's guide' type of thing on a search, but have not come by one yet.

These trucks are really durable it depends on how the owner used it if he would race it use it off-road and drove harshly I wouldn't get it they are worn out from all sorts of parts 80k miles isn't that high for these trucks trust me it just depends on how the owner used it

80k isn't that high for a 2008. Get under it and look at the bottom, especially the shocks. That's about the time they fail and they're a little pricey.

From the history, it's been in the city its whole life. Assumption is it was a family hauler/boulevard cruiser.
Looked at shocks on RockAuto and prices didn't look too bad.

See if the cd player works. All the windows roll up and down. Any major oil residue from a leaky oil pan or rear main. Chrome on the wheels isnt peeling too bad. Everything works on the remote(s). Side mirrors both fold in and out. Heated and cooled seats still work. Rides smooth no suspension rattle. Back original brake pads might need changed soon.

Cold start it and listen to the engine. It's going to tick/knock until it's warmed up. Most '07-'08 trucks do this, so see if you're comfortable with it or not. Inspect the suspension and listen to the air compressor. Make sure it's not too loud and doesn't sound worn out. See if the clear coat is failing around the gloss black trim near the windows. Drive it cold and see how the transmission shifts. My Escalade and Denali both had a slight slip from 2-3, but it would disappear when it was warmed up.

Are you buying it from a private seller or a dealer?

Will def check under for any leaks/residue. I've read about the folding mirror issues; no biggie if it fails, but it is a neat feature to have.

LS-based motors commonly tick during cold starts, what is specific with the 07-08 trucks to cause this?
Is the air compressor for the suspension/shocks? Is this what makes the shocks expensive? Where is the compressor located?
How would I tell if it has Magride?

Non-Caddy dealer.

Not all LS-based motors tick. My friends 2011 is quiet as a mouse upon start-up. GM made some changes for the '09 model year, if I recall correctly.

The compressor is for the rear shocks. It comes on upon start-up for 5 seconds or so. It's located in the rear somewhere. Magnetic ride was offered on 2009+ trucks with the 22" wheel option. Look for the code Z95 in the glove box.
