Hi, My 2008 CTS has been all kinds of trouble. Right now it will not turn over. All electronics work in accessory mode, when I turn it to try to start, dash turns off and does not turn over. Here is a video.
Check engine light flickers. Any advice on how to get her running again?

Thanks

Bring up the Battery voltage on the driver information center (DIC) and note battery voltage when you power up and the instant you turn the starter on, I would suspect a bad battery. Youi should start with about 12.4 volts.

Battery has 13.7 volts
That's smoking good voltage from a battery installed in a CTS with the ignition on and engine off, like a battery with no load at all on it. Check battery cable connections and don't trust that reading without a formal test. I didn't know a reading that high connected up was even possible from a typical car battery. I'm in agreement with the previous response as your symptom is characteristic of a bad battery, good enough to power up the dash, but no guts to start. Check your oil level also, a seized motor and or bad starter tends cause this kind of symptom, but then neither of those situations would leave a battery with a 13.7 v reading after the first start attempt.

Its because it has been hooked up to a trickle charger for about a week. I got the same reading using a multimeter on the contacts under the hood. I think this is definitely an issue with the battery connection, but I don’t think it’s the battery itself. Tried cleaning the battery connectors in the trunk and same results.

I just watched the video for the first time. The engine light flickering is concerning for a bigger problem than a battery connection issue, unless it's the result of the video. The engine light will flash under certain circumstances when there is a problem, but the only time I've ever seen an engine light flicker like that was when there was a problem with the engine computer. I noticed stabilitrack is off also at power on, I am under the impression that once the car is turned off it defaults to on until it is turned off again. I believe at this point the car needs to be scanned for computer codes.

Water infiltration via clogged sunroof drains can be a contributing factor as well.

I think this is definitely the cause. Any solutions?

Something is not adding up.
Either your battery is not sufficient for the vehicle or you're leaving out some important details leading up to your present vehicle situation.

I would personally begin by having your battery load tested followed by scanning the OBD system for codes.

Load Testing is needed...follow suggestions above...I had an issue with a car battery that showed it was just fine...until a load was placed on it and then it went to nearly zero...with no load it looked like new battery...good luck with yours

Two man job. Have someone check the voltage AS you are trying to start the car. If the voltage goes down to 9 or less, you have a bad battery or a seized engine or starter. If the voltage goes down very little or none, then you have a wiring/connection or switch problem. The great thing about this test is, you do not have to remove the battery (unless it tests bad). Good Luck.

Unless a "12 volt" car battery is connected to a smart charger there is NO WAY it can show 13.7 volts. A fully charged "12 volt" battery, disconnected from anything for a half hour, shows 12.6 volts and that's IT. Each of the 6 cells - connected in series to form a battery - produces 2,1 volts at full charge.

My STS is presently connected to a Battery Minder and the float voltage supplied to the vehicle system is 13.1 volts with essentially 0 Amps of Battery Minder output. This keeps the battery fully charged and prevents plate sulfation during long layups.

It is a flicker. Not just the video. I will scan for codes and provide them.
