Subject:6L80 Transmission Hesitation, Sag or Lack of Engine Response, Busy Transmission Shifting with Cruise Control Engaged, Engine Stalls on Initial Cold Startup (Reprogram TCM)) #06-07-30-019A - (01/04/2007)

with 6L80 Automatic Transmission (RPO MYC)


This bulletin is being revised to update the correction information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 06-07-30-019 (Section 07 -- Transmission/Transaxle).

Condition

Some customers may comment on the following conditions:

• A hesitation, sag or lack of engine response while accelerating. This typically occurs after backing off the throttle then shortly stepping back in to a heavy or wide open throttle position. This condition may occur at any speed, but is most likely to occur after accelerating to 48 to 80 km/h (30 to 50 mph), backing off the throttle then stepping back in. A 1.5 to 2.5 second delay may occur before the vehicle resumes acceleration.
• Frequent transmission shift cycling occurring on slight to moderate grades when in cruise control at vehicle speeds from 64 to 121 km/h (40 to 75 mph). The customer comment may include "too much vehicle speed variation from the desired cruise control speed setting" when the shift cycling is evident.
• On the initial cold startup when ambient temperatures are below -22° C (-8° F) and an engine block heater is not used, the engine starts and may immediately stall. The engine will typically restart immediately and operate normally.​
Correction

A revised transmission calibration has been developed to address these issues. Reprogram the transmission control module (TCM) with an updated software calibration. This new service calibration will be released with TIS satellite data update version 8.0 or later, available August 14, 2006. As always, make sure your Tech 2® is updated with the latest software version.
After reprogramming the TCM, Service Fast Learn Adapts must be performed using the Tech 2®. Check and clear all DTCs that may have set as a result of the programming process .

I'm new to this site but i need some help. I have a 2007 Cadillac Escalade that has hard shifts when up shifting and down shifting. sometimes it feels as if i got hit from the back. when i let off the gas then back on it kicks into gear rough. When i'm on the highway its perfect no problem at a steady speed or even between the higher gears. sometimes it has a rough idle but it goes and comes as it pleases. there is no check engine light on and i have no mods done to it. OEM wheels and tires. can someone help me.

I have a 2006 Escalade with similar problem. I was traveling on the highway at speeds of 50 - 70 and experienced shifting in and out of overdrive ( a lot of shifting) the check enging light is on, I don't know what the code is, but when I asked a mechanic to read it, he said it was a code for a vacuum leak. We had problem with gas cap and replaced it a couple of years ago. I thought it may be that again.

My issue is just a tad different, at about 69600mi the 1-2 shift seems really soft, its not quite what I would call flaring, but it doesnt go from 1st to second in a fast smooth action, more like a really long shift, more so under heavy acceleration.

I would almost say slipping, but its not reving really high, its just taking a while to get from 1st to 2nd. My old 07 Avalanche had a 4L70 and a shift kit, so 1-2 shift was almost instant, maybe with time, these just get softer on the shift.

I just want to make sure its not a band starting to go out, I tow, and need a reliable truck going up the rim which has really steep grades.

A tune should get you what you are looking for. I did mine with HPT and I get quick snappy shifts now.
Also look into the corvette servos, that will firm things up.

Did the Corvette Servo in my Avy with the 4L70 - it firmed things up nicely. That truck I also had Black Bear custom tune. Thats all been stolen with the truck. So back to square one.

How does one go about programming an HPT into the TCM/ECM of these vehicles, thru laptop and OBDII cable? Whats the general cost for HPtunes where user can create custom tunes?

BTW - Ive notice this slow/delayed 1-2 shift usually only occurs when tranny is below 150-deg, once warm that shift firms up quite a bit.

Yeah I'm pretty active on LS1GTO.com, and less so on tahoeyukonforum and LS1Tech. So much info on there, no need to post anything new.

You can buy HPT yourself directly from them. Price is around $550 or so. They may or may not be running a x-mas special for 2 extra credits. I know they have done that in the past, and when I bought mine. I have some tunes I can share with you. Built for a stock truck, as I have not done any performance mods yet. Tune alone will really wake things up.

It's a small box that goes between the OBD2 port, and your USB port on a laptop. Tuning with this, and the skys the limit.

well I may just go that route, I posted a few posts on some other threads your active on, and I may just lean toward HPT...its unlimited tunes correct? Basically start with a table base don the logging and then tweak from there?

I know the biggest factor on my BB tune was the spark delay...even running "premium" fuel, it would sometimes retard up to 5 degrees, we set it more aggressive, and I committed to not running that tune unless I had true 92+ octane, which I made by blending E85 with premium. that did the trick, spark delay went to 0 and sometimes .5.
