2006 V Looking for FG2 front struts or upgrade suggestions

I have an '06 that I've had since '10, it has 115K now, and the drinker side front strut started bleeding fluid pretty bad. Couldn't find replacements as these are dealer options, So i had to go FE4 but they are def softer than the track day struts. Anyone know where i can get the struts rebuilt, advice on whether to move to aftermarket. I don't race, and don't want a teeth rattler but I also don't like the spongy ride of the FE4s.

Hi All,

I am in desperate need of your help. I have a 2005 V, I've had it since 2007 and has been a great car, 118k on the clock and very much stock. While addressing front upper control arm bushing replacement, I notice my front shocks have failed. And I've tried to look everywhere for them, the places I've looked say they've been discontinued.

What have you guys run for replacement shocks on these cars? This is my daily driver, I want to get it back on the road safely. Hoping this community can help me with knowledge and options.

I hear your pain wiwsmith, I have fe4s and they've failed and I'm looking for replacements. I unfortunately cannot help with your question specifically, hopefully someone here responds... If I may ask, Where did you find FE4 replacements?

I think at this point you're either stuck trying to find used parts (which are few and far between), or you can go with one of the aftermarket coilover setups. The only ones I have personal experience with are the KW V3s, which I've been running since 2008 or 2009 - I've been very happy with them for street and HPDE duty, but they're definitely not cheap. They weren't cheap when I bought them way back then, and I think the MSRP has gone up about $500 since then.

Other options that I've heard good things about include Feal and Scale. There are also the bargain versions from Megan and BC, but reviews on those seem quite mixed - some folks love them, others think they're junk.

Someone also posted about this on ls1tech not too long ago. One thing I suggested there is that maybe a set of V6 front dampers from a 2nd gen would work? Looking on rockauto.com they have FE2 ("ride & handling suspension") ACDelco front shocks listed for under $90 each. I figure the 2nd gen CTSs were heavier than the 1st gens, so the 2nd gen FE2 damper might be a better match (better than the 1st gen FE1 damper) to the V1 dampers.

I'm tempted to buy one just to compare to the stock V1 dampers, see if it looks like it would bolt up, then return it (since I don't actually need it).

I replaced my fronts and rears in 2018. Bought from Rock Auto
Fronts AC Delco 540250 (19150079 FE4)
Rear 25752922 FE4
No idea if these are still available. Good Luck

Last year I replaced mine with the Yellow Speed Racing coilover shocks.
Dynamic Pro Sport Coilovers 2003-2007 Cadillac CTS / CTS-V

These are not as good as the high end KW, but they are head and shoulders above the stock shocks and Eibach lowering springs I had on it previously. They are reasonably priced and good quality. Ride height is adjustable, great option for lowering the car and still keeping a good ride quality. Can't attach picture but mine is lowered about 1.5" all the way around and they have room to still lower more if wanted. They also offer military/ veteran discount so set of 4 with discount were under $1,000. Well worth the money. The rear are not true coilover, the springs are separate from the shocks. Rear spring mount could be better designed, but again, they are good for the price. Driving around town they feel more solid, don't have the lowered spring floating feeling and handle the bumps well while not being too stiff. I did a track day in December and the car definitely feels more planted in the corners. For a budget friendly option I would highly recommend these.

Do you not have a picture to attach, or is the forum not letting you attach it? You have plenty of history here on the forum, so your account shouldn't be limited in any way - you should be able to click the little picture icon and attach a pic.

When I try to attach a picture I get a message that says "Oops! We ran into some problems"
