I recently bought a 2006 Ctsv and need a bumper for it. Will a v6 bumper work or are there differences?

There are differences. Go to the regular CTS forum (CTS First Generation Forum - 2003-2007) and search for "CTS-V bumper" - you'll find a number of threads from back in the day (when CTS-V bumpers were still available) of people doing the opposite swap on the V6 CTSs. That will tell you what parts are different.
