Hi guys,

I just purchased my first Cadillac, a 2006 CTS with all the trimmings.

I've been fiddling and I decided to try the DVD and was dissapointed that it simply doesn't work. I have the Bose sound system and the nav unit to go with it and when I insert a normal, retail (movie) DVD into the nav/dvd slot I get the message

"This type of disc can not be played"

If I insert an alternate region DVD, I get the correct "Region not correct" message so it is reading correctly.

Also, the nav dvd and nav function correctly.

Am I doing something stupid, or is something up with the unit?

Thanks guys!

I got exact the same problem as you.
But in my case even the normal navigation disc doesn't work right.
Someone brought the point once, that it could caused by the laser which isn't working right.

The next thing that i will try, is a complete system update and a new navigation disc.

Hey, I am not near my car but, you should be able to change your region in nav settings.

No. Its not the code!
1. I don't think you can change it such easily. I never found an opition for that. And if you could the whole things with the codes wouldn't make sense.
2. I tried it with an american dvd and it hasn't worked.

I have not found any update disc for the euroversion. So i think I have to go to the Cadillac dealer, and let them make the job.

It's not the region code.

I explained I tried both regions, one simply said "Cannot play this type of Disc" the other said "Incorrect Region".

The region was an American disc, the type of disc error was my local region.

Re: DVD Player Not playing DVD Movie
Solution found....

It seems that European vehicles have had the DVD region changed to R2, but the only video format playable is NTSC where it needs to be PAL for UK/Europe.

I have a Region free NTSC disc, and it plays perfectly (Timeless, A National Parks Odyssey).

The only solution seems to be either seek out more Region free NTSC discs, or convert some PAL to NTSC on your computer, and burn to DVD.

Maybe there is a way to either alter Region code OR PAL/NTSC with a Tech II?

Sounds like your Nav drive is not functioning. Try one of those lens cleaner cd's. If that does not work then I suggest you get if fixed through Specmo Enterprises.

They fixed my nav unit with the same issue for $520. I had it shipped to there company, they called me with an estimate.

erik soelseth reference was correct!

SOLVED!

In order to playback DVDs in the EU region on this particular nav unit, the DVD must be encoded in the NTSC resolution but in the UK PAL region or Region Free.

Tested and confirmed with 3 NTSC DVDs:
  • NTSC Retail DVD (Region Free) - Worked.
  • NTSC Burnt DVD (Region Free) - Worked.
  • NTSC Burnt DVD (UK Region) - Worked.
  • PAL Retail DVD (Region Free) - Did Not Work.
