2005 Trunk Lid Leaking

Hello All,

I've just traded up to a 2005 CTS from a "Fix Or Repair Daily".

I love my Caddy but the trunk lid keeps filling with water. I took it back to the dealership and discovered that water had been pooling in the lid and had dripped through rusted the trunk latch in the body.

They fixed the rust damage and replaced the bezel under warranty. Bless them.

The trunk lid is still getting water inside. It pools and when the trunk is opened it sloshes up to the top part of the lid and drains into the trunk through the hole for the wiring for the lights.

The dealership took it back and inspected it, tightened the bolts, and pressure washed it and had no leaks. I brought it home and after a steady rain it filled up again.

The trunk seals on the body are good and it doesn't leak into the trunk that way, it's through that wacky trunk lid.

Has anyone else conquered this problem?

I checked the "fix leaking bezel" thread but the bezel doesn't leak that I can see.

Thanks!

theirs only one way for the water to get in and that is through the holes in the bezel which would be why I am going to completely eliminate both my 3rd break light and bezel and customize my trunk lid to only have a frenched license plate a frenched caddy emblem and a recessed rear view camera and then im going to flush mount reverse lights to my roof
mine gets a little water in there too, i took the carpet off so its easier to tell if it gets in there.
also i grabbed one of the spray rust check bottles and got it all in there and over the bolts...just incase.
hi, just had my 2005 CTS into the dealer for the same thing, trunk lid was full of water you could hear it slosh around in there, I park outside in Vancouver Canada, so lots of rain, anyhow dealer fixxed it under warranty and so far so good, said water was coming in around the third light and licence plate lamp? One thing related to that I thought was the car would fogg up all the time, dealer said it was due to the trunk moisture, but it still does it so I took it back, they said it's from moisture in the defogg duct under the window, anyone else have this problem?
cheers,
randy
Randy3895,

Yep they said it was the "stop light" on the trunk lid leaking the first time. Now they can't find the leak.

As a side effect the speaker in the back dash has completely quit working. The OEM sound system in the car was crappy to begin with and I can get that fixed.

It's the mysterious water leak that's causing the problem now. We had torrential rains today so maybe they can figure it out.

Defogg duct under the rear window? Hmmm. I did not think there was such a think on the rear windshield. I always figured the moisture made it's way out of the trunk via the back dash to make trouble with the window.

I'll post anything that the guy finds out this time. I sent him an email link to some of the posts in the group.
