2005 STS...wont start "shift to park"

Hey Fellow Caddy Owners,

I have looked all over this forum and have tried everything I have seen in pervious posts nothing is helping me get my 2005 Cadillac sts 3.6 to start. When I press the start button it just blinks out then after about 30seconds it goes to ACC mode. I have tried adjusting the linkage (actually replaced the bushings too.) I this point I feel I am going to have to replace the shifter. Which is fine but I can’t figure out how to get that thing off, any help would be great.
Also when I Google the part number(10369115) most sites says it discontinued...odd. Again, Thanks and I am open to any and all suggestions.

After disconnecting the linkage there's 4 bolts that hold the assembly down to the trans tunnel.

Can you start it in neutral?
Although you have NOT mentioned it,
But are you stepping on the Brake
While you are pressing the START button ?
Just asking.
Happy Motoring. :stirpot::):)
@Subsailor613 lol that is funny, yes I am stepping on the brake. Man, I wish that was my problem.
@Ludacrisvp No, wont start in neutral either.
I moved the shifter around a little bit and I got it to start turned it off and now it is doing the same thing. i do believe it is the shifter assembly because i removed the panels around the shifter, which allows me to see around the shifter assembly and when the car was running the shifter switich was getting stuck. Which brings me to my next problem....I called around today for a new Shifter Assembly and all GM dealer said it is discontinued.

@1BadCadSTS Thanks, I can the screws down there but really can only see three good, the one positioned at the bottom drive side I can’t see and wouldn’t be able to get any tools down there to unscrew. What is the process to accessing all of these screws in order to remove the shifter?
I really doubt it's discontinued.
Try calling Chris Heath at Rippy Cadillac in North Carolina. He is honest and sells new direct from GM parts to forum members at a discount.

Chris doesn't work there anymore.
I called a week or so ago and was told he has been gone for a little while now. No other details though.
I called today, the guy in parts told me they had to let Chris go because he was on the message board more than anything else lol. Said he wasn't helping any customers that came in the shop...I wish Chris the best he has been a big help on this board for a long time. He also said they won't be doing any discounts either. This is the same guy that told me the part was discontinued, so I asked him what do you do if a customer comes in that needs one? His words were "we go to the junk yard!" Smh. Thanks for all the helps guys. :)
I am about to replace my shifter on my V here soon too..

Follow up question that OP touched on by saying he could not see one of the bolts.. Does shifter replacement require removing the entire console, or just the upper bezel/shift knob?

NM, talked to a local STSV owner and got the lowdown, will be swapping in the new shifter tonight!
Shifter in my car did require removal of the entire console as the ductwork has a tab covering one of the nuts holding the shifter to the tunnel.

All told with a 30min break for dinner plus not knowing what I had to do and carefully looking for each bolt etc I took 3hrs total, including a 15min test drive to verify shifter function. Experienced Dealers should be well under 2hrs to perform this swap out. I could probably do it in 1.5hrs or less now that I know what to do.
