Too bad that Safelite doesn't have them.
Honestly can tell you the aftermarket glass is not at clear with the HUD as OEM.dkozloski said:Try the phone book with your local auto glass hustlers. The only difference between theirs and GMs would be some of the silk screening. i.e., you might not get the little orange marks at the base for aligning the wipers.
Carvone,Safelite replaced mine a few months ago and it is as good as the original. I was concerned but HUD looks great, rainsense works as it should and no leaks![]()
Aftermarket options are in fact available they are however not part of the GM strict standards required for HUD windshields. I forget where I read but all HUD windshields with GM logo are individually tested to insure proper clarity and refraction of image.ddalder said:Out of curiosity I called a glass shop about your 2005. He can't tell me how many are available, but they have stock in a Calgary warehouse for a 2005 w/RainSense and HUD (brand is Pilkington). You should keep looking because it seems they are available. The one for my 2008 is harder to get. It's at least a week away.
It was the '07, sadly rainsense was not an option in 2010. I will have to look at the paperwork at home tonight to see if there is a part # on it, I had to wait a week or so as they had to special order it. I just submitted my claim through USAA and they handled the rest.Carvone,
Was it your '07 or your '10 that got the new windshield?
If it was the '07, any chance you have a part number on some paperwork somewhere you could share? that may be really helpful....
My claim is through AAA, but AAA uses Safelite for their glass claims. Safelite can't find a windshield either....
Same numbers and info as his aftermarket but I swear my 05 with retrofitted HUD next to his factory equipped HUD and replacement windshield mine is clearer in all light and his is almost illegible in direct sunlight.Carvone said:I don't have any paperwork on it but the Glass itself reads... Saint Gobain Sekurit DOT 615 M53VV AS1 HUD That's all I have on it, like I said before, the HUD is as clear as the OEM was. It's nice to be rid of all the pit marks and chips that a windshield gets over a 100K miles.
