2005-2009 STS Windshields no longer available from GM, or anywhere else

I own a 2005 STS 1SG with HUD and rain sensing wipers, and have a crack across my windshield. I have been waiting on a new windshield from GM since September last year. Each month, they would push the "ship by" date out another 30 days. Finally in March, after getting everyone involved that I could, they decide they will no longer be able to get the windshield.

It is part number 19180572, which will fit 2005-2009 STS with HUD and rain sense.

Part #19210868 is for 2010-2012 STS with HUD, rain sense, and lane departure... But no one can tell me if this windshield could work in my car.

this situation is ridiculous. I have contacted the Cadillac owners hotline, and elevated it as high as I could, only to be told they can't do anything for me... they did suggest I could just buy a new car!!!

this is a safety item, and I can't get anyone at Cadillac to care.

there is a local junkyard that has a windshield that AAA is willing to buy and install in my car, but I don't want someone else used windshield if I don't have to.

I love my 3 Cadillacs, and want to pass this one on to my recent college grad son, and buy a new CTS Vsport, but now I am so mad, those plans are on hold.

Any idea if the 2010-2012 windshield would work? Any other idea?

Thanks,
David

Too bad that Safelite doesn't have them.
Same issue with fathers 07. Aftermarket was used and the display is not as clear as OEM.

I would push for the lane departure glass. The glass is different due to the lane departure camera which is mounted below the mirror.
Try the phone book with your local auto glass hustlers. The only difference between theirs and GMs would be some of the silk screening. i.e., you might not get the little orange marks at the base for aligning the wipers.

Honestly can tell you the aftermarket glass is not at clear with the HUD as OEM.
I just added a factory HUD to my Corvette and it's a bit dimmer in the daytime than what it should be since I didn't change the windshield, but still visible and not worth changing the windshield just for that. Dusk and night time it's plenty bright. I know your situation is different but just to give you an idea of what it'd be like to use a non-HUD windshield in case you can't find a HUD one.
Safelite replaced mine a wee bit over a year ago.:yup:
Safelite replaced mine a few months ago and it is as good as the original. I was concerned but HUD looks great, rainsense works as it should and no leaks:)
I had my non-HUD windshield replaced last summer by Glass Doctor and everything was great except the rearview mirror fell off. I glued it back on myself and everything was great. Glass doctor wanted to sell me another windshield.

Carvone,
Was it your '07 or your '10 that got the new windshield?

If it was the '07, any chance you have a part number on some paperwork somewhere you could share? that may be really helpful....

My claim is through AAA, but AAA uses Safelite for their glass claims. Safelite can't find a windshield either....
Tell Safelite/Glass Doctor to check with their distribution center in Anchorage, Alaska. They had more than the one they sold me and the second that they tried to sell me.
Out of curiosity I called a glass shop about your 2005. He can't tell me how many are available, but they have stock in a Calgary warehouse for a 2005 w/RainSense and HUD (brand is Pilkington). You should keep looking because it seems they are available. The one for my 2008 is harder to get. It's at least a week away.

Aftermarket options are in fact available they are however not part of the GM strict standards required for HUD windshields. I forget where I read but all HUD windshields with GM logo are individually tested to insure proper clarity and refraction of image.

In all honesty my NON HUD GM windshield shows the HUD clearer than my fathers replacement HUD non GM windshield and BOTH are manufactured by saint gobain as is the OEM GM license HUD windshield. His aftermarket shield actually has a distortion in the glass where the GM logo would go almost to show that it was NOT approved by GM the logo was removed and sold as a second tier glass option.
I agree that OEM glass is held to a higher standard and it is my preference. I'm not sure if GM still has any non-HUD glass available as I didn't ask. If it comes down to a crack versus aftermarket, then aftermarket seems the way to go.
bummer since I just got hit with a stone and now have a silver dollar size spider web crack on the glass. AAA Glass wants to try and repair it before they replace it. Don't know how I feel about that yet. Also does the lane departure module come into play here?

It was the '07, sadly rainsense was not an option in 2010. I will have to look at the paperwork at home tonight to see if there is a part # on it, I had to wait a week or so as they had to special order it. I just submitted my claim through USAA and they handled the rest.
Rain sense wasn't an option in 2010?? Or you just don't have it on YOUR 2010?

Please clarify because that seems crazy to me.
RainSense was not a valid option in the 2010 or 2011 GM STS Vehicle Order Guides. The last year it was available in this model was 2009.
I don't have any paperwork on it but the Glass itself reads...

Saint Gobain Sekurit
DOT 615 M53VV AS1
HUD

That's all I have on it, like I said before, the HUD is as clear as the OEM was. It's nice to be rid of all the pit marks and chips that a windshield gets over a 100K miles.

Same numbers and info as his aftermarket but I swear my 05 with retrofitted HUD next to his factory equipped HUD and replacement windshield mine is clearer in all light and his is almost illegible in direct sunlight.
