My 83 y.o. dad has a 01 Eldo that he bought new. He loves the car but has replaced everything on the car at least once including the engine. His caddy mechanic at the Cadillac dealership says the 2005-2009 has a far superior engine to the engines built 2004 and before. This mechanic only works on Cadillacs and says he would only buy 2005 and up. Is this correct?

Looking at buying a 2005 Deville with 23k mi. tomorrow. They want $1200 to "cadillac certify", 6 yr/100k so I'm assuming this will give me an extra 2 years. Opinions appreciated.

Thanks

When talking about the Northstar, 2003-Present are generally more reliable because (I believe) they switched to a courser head bolt to almost eliminate the probability of head gasket issues. The RWD N* (SRX, STS) also produces 20 more horsepower, but that's not really a big deal, is it?
