Ignition got left on, killed the battery and now the ignition won't turn off which of course won't allow me to remove the key. I see on some Cadillacs there an access button under the steering column to push and manually free the key but I don't see this on my vehicle. I also assume I could charge the battery and would fix the problem but I was always told not to hook up a battery charger or battery while the ignition is on.

Any suggestions?

Finally found the button, it is recessed about 3/8 inch in and does have a plastic cover that has to be popped off with a small screw driver (kind of a pain), then push up with a screw driver and turn the ignition off. Apparently this process is the same regardless if you have column or floor shifter (mine is floor shift).

Glad you got the problem handled. Good information for the rest of us.

Is this button ON the steering column? If not where is it?

Yes, directly below the key and on the same side. See attached pic circled in blue. WIN_20200125_13_04_09_Pro_LI.jpg
