Someone tried stealing my SUV the other night. The next morning when I go to turn it on, it won't start. They removed the ignition switch from under the steering column to start the suv by hand so they could bypass using the key. Now when I try, its as if there is no power but you can still smell the gas. The battery is new and everything powers up normally, the door chime the interior light, everything is fine. It just will not start. What could be wrong with it?

Ok so I checked and the sensor is broken off of the key switch. When I go to replace it, will it be set to go already or will I have to take it to the shop and have some kind of reprogramming or resetting of the system or the keys or anything?

This is how I did it to anyone needing to replace thier started switch: The starter switch is located in the steering column below the key hole. just take the plactic off of the steering column and there will be an L shaped plastic part plugged vertically into the steering column the longer part goes up into the column to the inside of the key hole and the short part "L's toward the driver's side door and has a plug into it with several wires. There are two tabs on the switch (mine were white) that hook into the steering column. You need to push the tabs in to release the switch (then just pull down on the switch). Just be careful because there are other wires on the inside of the column that will be hooked into a small hook on the side of the switch (toward the engine). Just pull that small hook out and move the wires from underneath the hook (you don't need to unplug them). Unplug the plug out on the smaller section of the "L" ad replace the switch. There is a small white wheel at the top (longer part) of the "L". That must be lined up correctly in order for the new switch to work. I had to line it up differently several times before it worked. I would just line it up just like the old switch that you just pulled out. Any questions reply on this forum. I hope that this works. I know how frustrating it is when you have such an expensive vehicle and it won't start. (I'm in central N.Y. it is 6 degrees). Good luck and let me know how it works. God bless
