This is how it started, the check engine light came about a week ago it stayed on for two days then it went out. The light came back on and then I started to hear a slite taping noise at high rpm's. I thought it was the valves that were taping due to the oil not getting to the lifters and I needed a oil change,so I was going to get the oil changed. Before I could get it changed I was driving and the car shut off I tryed to start it back up and it sounded like the battery was drained I waited for about two mins and tryed again and it started but there was knocking sound in the engine and when I turned the steering wheel and it sound like the belt was loose just before it cut off again. So I thought the oil was low and the check oil level display didn't come on yet I then put some oil in it,then I started it and it sound like there was a marble knocking around in the engine.I was scared to drive it home so I got it towed did not want to cause more damage, the car doesn't cut off when I turn the steering wheel but the knocking sound is still there. I'm thinking that one of my valves broke off and fell in the engine. Help!!

It may be too late. If you had an oil pressure light come on and not have a knocking sound, you may have spun a bearing. You're description sounds more like a rod knock than a lifter tap.

How hard is it to fix the rod and does the engine need to come out of the car?
Oh yeah! The drivetrain needs to be dropped and if the bearing is bad, most likely so is the crankshaft journal, which means replacing the crankshaft. If that has to get replaced, then you have to replace ALL the bearings. Better be sure that is what the problem is before tearing into it. It's a big job.
