so I just got the check coolant level on my dash this morning I've had the car about 2 years and never had to fill it is this a possible problem or does it just need topping off I don't know when the last time was it was filled.but I know I have not filled it in two years but I only drive about 5000 miles a year on it

Proper surge tank coolant level, cold, is half full. Open the cap and look.

See the FULL COLD legend molded into the top of the surge tank ? next to it is a flat arrow - follow that across and down the side of the tank - the point is about at the tank midseam.

If the tank is at proper level it may be the sensor, float or wiring/connector - bottom of the tank.

You can sometimes revive the sensor/float by removing the surge tank, filling it say halfway with hot water and shaking it vigorously up and down (the direction the float operates). Empty and repeat until no more crud comes out. Old seal tab residue and jelled coolant causes the float to stick and trigger false coolant messages
