I have a 2003 CTS with a bad engine would a Ford 4.6 v8 fit in the car easily or would I have to do fabrications to the engine bay

The easiest way to do the swap would be to jack up your rear view mirror and run a Ford under it.

Short answer - "No!"

Totally different engines, transmissions, mounting, electronics, electricals, all wiring, etc., etc., etc..

Asking here on a Cadillac forum doesn't seem like the best place to start. Go to a Ford site (or use Google) and figure out the dimensions of the 4.6, then compare those dimensions to your current engine and the engine bay you're working with.

Even without knowing the actual dimensions, I would guess that you'd be hard pressed to fit a Mod motor into a CTS. A 90deg overhead cam V8 is a very wide engine, significantly wider than the pushrod V8 LS series that GM put into the CTS platform.
