Timing belt is stripped. The crank spins under starter power and the cams were tested with a socket to see if they would move and they did. We do not have a timing tool kit. What are the chances that there is internal damage to any of the valve train or can a new belt just go on and the proper timing of it set. This is our only running vehicle and we are praying for the best. Someone please advise. Thank you, Ken.

My son in law told me to ask if it is an "interference engine".

confirmed this is an interference engine. you can only confirm damage using a compression test after the new belt is on. Visual inspection wont yield much. look for leakage on the exhaust sides.

The engine is wasted. Retimed it with a new belt and we get exhaust smoke out of the intake. That would indicate to me a compression loss through the intake valves not seating indicating bent and non closing valves. Going to strip the heads off tomorrow.
