I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the personalized system in the 2002 dts. I read in the manual that you can adjust the onboard computer to say " welcome Frank" instead of "Driver one" and so on. Any ideas on how to do it without going to the dealer?

I had my 2001 personalized. You need to go to the dealer, or get ahold of one of those diagnostic handheld computers that plug into the shifter console. Then you go thru the menus .. probably something about personalization.

The text field is like 28 characters (maybe more 30 ? dont remember) - The computer is expecting an ASCII character string to be input.

So you need to plan out the entire space with the characters and use the computer to input them. I think it is expecting the one long text string.

So you need to map this out on paper first.

Char 01 - space or ASCII characters for space "20"
Char 02 - space "20"
Char 03 - space "20"
Char 04 - Captial M or ASCII "4D"
Char 05 - Small r or ASCII "72"
Char 06 - period . or ASCII "2E"
Char 07 - space "20"
Char 08 - Capital M - "4D"
Char 09 - Small i - "69"
Char 10 - Small l - "6C"
Char 11 - Small l - "6C"
Char 12 - Small e - "65"
Char 13 - Small r - "72"

Would be " Mr. Miller" or a text string like "2020204D722E204D696C6C6572".

I had to show my service advisor how to convert the ASCII characters, and he programmed me for free - as a learning experience! So the computer geek and the Cadillac service advisor both learned something.

Ascii chart can be used like - http://www.jimprice.com/jim-asc.htm

Regards - Mr. Miller
