2002 Deville.....Radiator replacement

5476 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Submariner409
My good friends neighbor has this car, sweet older woman. Wont part with it for anything, 54,000 miles, in quite good shape.
Radiator is cracked, she was quoted $1350 to replace and that it was bad because this 'car has head gasket problems'.
WTH?

Anyway, it doesnt look like too bad a job, has anyone had experience with this? is the 2002 engine of an era with head bolt problems...?

She would love to keep it, it runs strong...

Thanks

That price is crazy, a leaky radiator has nothing to do with the head gaskets. A Northstar is designed to run for several miles without ANY coolant with no damage done. If your worried about head gaskets you can do a block test to find out.
I had to do mine in the 04 last spring, the radiator shop quoted me $700.00. I said thanks but no thanks and did it myself for the cost of the radiator, hoses, and a jug of coolant. Wasn't too bad of a job to do, only took me a couple hours. Here is a video
