I am going to install a 2000-2001 style DeVille hood ornament on my STS, and I am just trying to get an idea of whether or not anyone has ever completed the install before - or have any advice or suggestions on how to do it. I have not yet had the chance to look at the hood or the ornament to figure out about where the hole needs to go and how it will mount. I have seen several Seville's with this style or the 2002-05 style DeVille hood ornament mounted on them, and some look good and some look like they were not mounted in the best place, and any thoughts or help I would appreciate and hope that I can complete the project and it looks the way that I would like when finished.

Leave well enough alone. The car already has one Cadillac crest in the grille. The K-Body was designed with smooth, blended lines - a tacky ornament breaks up the hood line.

If I where you, I'd take a walk through the nearest men's mall and find a Deville. Most already have the stand up crest removed. See what the hole looks like (it may be round with a location notch if I remember correctly). Measure the size and approximate location (keeping in mind that the Seville will be different).

Thanks guys, but the last time I checked we all live in America and I am still pretty sure that I can put an ornament on the hood. I would just like some advice on placement and how to mount it, I would love any help you all could offer - I want it though, and it's going on my hood. haha.

We all live in America too - but you'll find precious few Seville owners from your year group that have/will drill holes in their hoods to stick on another ornament. Most of this forum is not into the stick-on fender vent accessory group, so there's little experience with drilling extra holes in the car.

My advice would be to use the brains of a good body shop that does BMW/Mercedes work.

WHY - :vomit:

any thoughts or help I would appreciate
consider this - the 98 through 04 Seville series cars
never had a stand-up ornament - the emblem is in the grill -

only the "cheap" BASE model Deville - 2000 through 2005 -
had a stand-up hood ornament - the DHS and DTS models
had the Cadillac emblem in the grill -

Yeah, you're pretty much gonna have to drill. Placement is easy. Just center it and place it an inch or two back. Again, check a bone yard to get a better idea on where the Devilles are mounted. While you're there, see how they are mounted (assuming you can find one still on the car). It's basically just one large nut on the underside of the hood.

USE A CENTER PUNCH and drill a pilot hole. You'll be right on the body line, and it will slip without center punching. That body line may also make it difficult to get the ornament to stand straight up.

You'll also need a small hole say if there's bracing under the are that you mount the ornament. The hole in the bracing will have to be large enough to fit a socket to secure the retaining nut.

Well I used first a pilot bit, center of the hood drill a hole, then I used a uni- bit or a step-bit checking every time it goes through ( if u see one u will understand ) to make sure the hole us the correct fit for the emblem. There's also a gasket that goes in the hole. And do not over tighten the emblem as u will put a dent in the hood and when drilling let the drill do the work, don't apply to much pressure.. Worked great for me.
