My hot/cold air control is wacky. Seems unpredictable, but I'm starting to see a pattern. Won't blow hot air (engine already hot). I mess around with controls turning temp up and then down, switch from foot to face to windshield, then back again. Turn defrost on and off, AC on and off, repeat... Eventually, I get hot air when temp set to 60, or maybe hot from one side and cold on the other. Turn to 90, then the two sides reverse. Set to around 72 and turn up slowly and maybe eventually I will get heat from both sides with temp set to hot. Takes 20 minutes of screwing around but seems to always work eventually.

Had same problem in summer trying to get AC to blow cold on both sides, but definitely seems more finicky in winter.

Thought maybe to change the control unit (one on dash with all the knobs). See them on eBay used. But - also see a "climate control computer"?

Any ideas?

yeah, that ^^^^^ have you pulled codes? Sounds like the actuators aren't working. Do you hear any clicking noises in the dash? Our resident expert on this topic is Basscatt. Maybe he will chime in with more info.

Well, something is moving. Changing temp knob makes temp change - just in the wrong direction (for half the system). Then, it goes back to normal.

This is exactly what mines does sometimes. Sometimes when it does this, I will turn the car off and back on and it would be working as it should. But most times adjusting the temperature will eventually get it to where I want it.

It's probably the 2 blend door actuators. I had a similar problem on my 98 Eldo and replaced them both.
They're both located on the passenger side. One is accessible by removing the panel just above the foot area.
The other one is accessed by removing the glove box.

it's not a lot of work to replace them.. just take care when disconnecting the arms from them.

The blend doors are monitored. Pull the DTC's. Post them AND their definitions. Until you do, we're just guessing.
