I'm looking to take on this project over winter but i wanna know if anyone else has done it or has any info on dimensions & specs. I wanna put the new style 2006 Cadillac DTS front end on my 2001 Cadillac DTS, everything looks like it would fit i may need to do a little work here and there. Let me know ur thoughts on this project!

It would be a cool thing to do but you will most likely need to change WAY more parts than you realize.
Hood, fenders, bumpers (both metal inner bumper and the plastic cover), headlights, fog/corner lights, radiator core support, grille, hood latch, hood lift struts.
Those are the main things I can think of without looking up close with or even under the hood of an 06 or newer DTS.

The front fenders meet the A-pillars in an entirely different way after 2005. Also, the headlight wiring is likely different.

I do wish someone made a nicer aftermarket grille (closer to the new CTS's) and something to jazz up the taillights. They de-chromed this generation a little too much.

ral1960 - You said that the front fenders meet the a-pillars in a totally different way but from what i've seen they don't they're almost identical to the 2001-2005 model front fenders where they meet the a-pillar.....are u stating a fact and have u measured this???

Ludacrisvp - I agree with u on this that i'll probably need all of those parts changed out but i kind of knew that coming in to this i'm just worried about where the fenders meet the doors by the a-pillar.....like i said to me it looks like they line up the same way i even went to look at a new dts just to make sure and i don't see any difference but i don't have FACTS or SPECS which is what i'm looking for.

I got a guy that is willing to do the cut & paste job to give me the new front end look of the 2006-2009 DTS. I hate the new style back end and love the back end of my 2001 DTS so this is why i really wanna just swap out the front end. I just don't wanna buy all these parts and then find out that i can't do it and be left with all these parts & money wasted.....u feel what i'm sayin'??? THANKS FOR THE REPLIES KEEP THEM COMING!!!

the doors for both cars are identical. so thefenders should have the same curve and form to match your doors. so it should be able to swap out with out to much welding and such.
i asked this question a long time ago back when i got my DTS. never went farther with it because ...well i can just buy a newer one if i want. so it didnt bother me. plus the 00-05 is nicer IMO

do post results when you/if you do it.

eyekandyboats.inc - Thanks for the info and i thought the doors were identical i pulled up right next to a new DTS just to be sure and they looked the same. I think i'm gonna go ahead with this project in the spring. I can also buy a new DTS but like i said i just don't like the rear end of the new ones. I love the 2000-2005 DTS cuz they look beautiful and presidential the new one doesn't have the same look or feel.

I'll definitely post new photos if i end up doing the project for all u guys to see. Keep the replies coming hopefully someone who's already taken on this project will reply and give me some definite answers!

I would certainly like to see this completed. I too prefer the rear of the 00-05 and the front of the 06-up does look so much better and I would like to know how feasible of a job it is in the end. Part of me wants to do it too just so that I could have the new HID projector headlamps.

One thing I was thinking about is do both models have the same wheelbase?
If the new one has a shorter or longer one did they move the front wheels forward or rearward because that would make the wheel not fit right in the new fender.

eyekandyboatsinc - Thanks and i'm looking forward to this project and i'm still looking to find out about a few more things before i actually start ordering parts cuz i wanna be sure u know what i'm sayin'!!!

Ludacrisvp - I feel what ur saying about the HID headlamps i really want those things on my ride thats kind of why i'm doing this and the other thing about the wheelbase yea i'd like to find out about that first before going ahead because if it ain't the same then there's gonna be some issues. I'm gonna try and find out about this but if u fellas know what the wheelbase is on both let me know pls!!!

Keep the replies and ideas comin'!!!

According to Carfolio.com there are some minor differences.

2929 mm 115.3 in

Track
front 1593 mm 62.7 in
rear 1577 mm 62.1 in

Length 5258 mm 207 in
Width 1890 mm 74.4 in
Height 1440 mm 56.7 in

Length:wheelbase ratio 1.8
Ground clearance 135 mm 5.3 in
Curb weight 1836 kg 4048 lb

Wheelbase
2936 mm 115.6 in

Track
front 1588 mm 62.5 in
rear 1567 mm 61.7 in

Length 5273 mm 207.6 in
Width 1900 mm 74.8 in
Height 1463 mm 57.6 in

Length:wheelbase ratio 1.8
Curb weight 1818 kg 4008 lb
===========================

Well that should help a little bit.
The wheelbase is different by 0.3 inches or 7 mm
Would it make a difference? Not likely.

It would be easier to go buy a 2006 DTS and probably cheaper, considering you'll have a newer car that will last longer and shouldn't have headgasket issues.

Ludacrisvp - Thanks bro yea i looked into those same specs the other day and i don't think it'll make a difference so i'm gonna go thru with the project i think. I'm starting to order parts in Jan 2010.

ral1960 - Sorry but i'm not liking the new DTS and i love my 2001 DTS she's been nothing but good to me and the bodystyle is a lot better than the new style (Especially the back end and tailights on the 2001!!!), the only reason i'm changing the front end is because its probably the only thing i like about the new DTS mostly due to the headlights and grille. Don't get me wrong i still love the front end of the 2001 DTS but i need to do this project!

Keep replies & ideas coming!

I was talking to my mechanic yesterday about your idea and he thinks it should work. The mechanicals are the same, just new sheet metal over them. The space frame (inner bits) is identical from what I have heard so it is just a matter of bolting on the new fenders, hood, and bumper.

Make sure you post pictures if and when you do it, I have to see this!!

This is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has been successful yet with this type of swap??? I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Cadillac Deville Hearse with front-end damage and I am wondering if the front-end parts from a 2006 DTS would be able to be used. I figure that I would be buying a complete front clip anyway to fix the damaged 2000 cadillac, so it wouldn't cost that much more $$$ to buy an '06 instead of an '00-'05 and then it would match my '06 DTS when done... Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice!

I know this thread has been dead for a while, but honestly I cant find anywhere where someone has actually done the swap. 8-10 hrs involved with basic skill set. Started dissembling my doner dts at 12 on a Saturday and drove it 100% complete like factory 3hrs to work Sunday evening. If there is interest i will share a detailed description of how I completed it
Have a look, paint not a perfect match but as respray is planned
