2000 STS Engine Cradle

My 2000 STS is in the dealers because it stalled out at speed and also
because there is a "clunking" noise coming from under the vehicle. I was told
this morning that the engine cradle is cracked and needs to be replaced
under warranty. I presume the engine needs to be removed to replace the
cradle. How serious is this? They have not yet found the cause of stalling. I bought this car last year as a certified pre-owned vehicle. Is it likely the engine cradle was cracked from a collision prior to my buying the car? Any
thoughts would be appreciated.

Hmm... I've never heard of a cracked engine cradle. It's possible that it was in a wreck before, and the cradle was fatigued somehow, but it's a strong unit, it shouldn't crack on its own. Did the dealership replace it under your warranty?
Thanks for your response. That's been my thoughts also. The dealer is great and they replaced it under warranty. I bought this car a year ago as a certified pre-owned Cadillac. This was my first (and now my last) used car. I don't like not knowing what's gone on before with the vehicle. As soon as I got the car back from the dealer I traded it in on a new Lexus.
I see a lot of 3 - 8 year old Cadillacs traded for new Lexus's.
