I confirmed my suspicions by performing a couple block tests on my 2000 Seville.
The fluid went from light blue to greenish yellow.

This car has a few little annoying issues but they are nothing compared to the
overheating problem it has. The car has 150k and I didn't pay all that much
for it. What would be a ball park number to have a GM dealership fix this issue?
I have a Buick dealership close to home. Would a third party repair shop be able
to fix this NorthStar problem as good or better than a dealer? Or maybe do I need to
call the "hook" and move on.

Thanx - jb

Dealer is going to ge very expensive. Out side shop doing it is the way to go. I have done quite a few of them using northstar performance studs. I don't know we're you are located at but I would get ahold of jake @northstar performance

Wrong forum. Your car is a Seville Touring Sedan, not a Sigma body "STS".

Ballpark, dealership engine overhaul - $4700 and more.

Contact Jake at www.northstarperformance.com and talk. Less than 1/2 the dealership figures. Depending on where you are (it makes a difference) there are shops that use his studs and kit to effectively return the engine to brand new. If the rest of the car is in Good to Very Good condition it is well worth repairing.

Study the sticky posts on this subject in the Engines, Northstar.

Thread moved to Seville. Please do not post multiple threads on the same subject. Threads merged.

EDIT: Jake's shop is just across the border from you, in Ontario. Drive it or truck it.

or your left arm - or $5000+

Would a third party repair shop
be able to fix this NorthStar problem as good or better than a dealer?

there are several - and the cost would be about half -

maybe do I need to call the "hook" and move on.
maybe - that depends on the overall condition of the car -
what else does it need to be "perfect"?

----------

the "real" Seville Touring Sedan was made until 2003 -

the newer STS has nothing to do with the Seville -
completely different platform -

What is the difference between a Seville STS and a Sigma Body STS ??
Two entirely different cars. Entirely. Seville was killed off in 12/03 and the acronym sat dormant until the launch of the RWD "STS" - for that car the STS means absolutely nothing - it's not even an acronym, it's GM vegetable letter soup.

Post #4, 1st sentence. This thread was moved from the later model "STS" forum.

Alphabet soup:

Seville was a long-running Cadillac progressive development model line. There were many Seville trim levels, with the last 13 or so years being the front wheel drive Seville Touring Sedan and the Seville Luxury Sedan. By 2000 the Seville name was thought (by GM) to be outdated so the successor - a rear wheel drive car - was planned. The body was dubbed the Sigma platform and the car name was the letters "STS". The 2005 and later "STS" and "STS-V" is NOT a Seville. Nowhere remotely close.

In the same vein, the 2006 and later "DTS" is not a Deville - that model line was shelved, the name Deville was dropped in the end of 2004. The new "DTS" means nothing - it is alphabet soup, not an acronym.

All Seville production ceased in 12/03, so there are some 2004 SLS around and a very few (export) 2004 STS. The model years ran from about 06/YR to about the end of 05/YR, so a "2003 STS" could have been built in June of 2002 or May of 2003. Look on the driver's door sticker of your car. Build date.

Think about it - the 2016 models will hit the showrooms in a month or so .............

The VIN breakdown for each year gives the body style and car line series designation ---- here's the 2002 breakdown - see the body style designator - each year is/was/might be slightly different as changes were made.

My car's VIN is 1G6KY54992U228889 - decipher it.

I decided to have a local company pull the motor and fix the issue the right way.
I'll update the results when I get the car back from the shop.

they specialize in northstar repair so I trust them to do it right.
