Not the core tube size - think of changing from a single row radiator to a double or triple ..... flow out the gumpstump.
Air locks or improper filling. Purge line free and clear ?
Considering the number of core tubes and their total hole size when added together, a radiator core will flow water faster than a fire hose. The rest of the system restrictions are what slows flow in specific "hot" areas and, even as small as the impeller is, our water pump will move one hell of a fearsome amount of coolant when unrestricted. Coolant pressure also has a lot to do with heat transfer from the engine to the coolant to the radiator tubes.
