Hi everyone,
I got this car used and it comes with a sunroof, my problem it doesn't open. Yet, I can hear the motor and mecanism working when I press the buttons but it seems like the darn thing is stuck closed. I can visualy see system bulging trying to open, there is a little rust by the seal so I tried to spray some penetrating lubricate but no chance.
Any idea?

no, its the original factory sunroof. I think either it is stuck because of rust ot just too old, but the mecanisme definitely works.

When you say you hear it working, do you mean you hear it going through it's range of motion, or just hear it trying to move when the button is first pressed?

Does it move if you use the tilt button?

the cable is broken - and it's going to be expensive to repair -

FIRST - check the RPO codes under the spare tire cover
to determine whether or not it actually is a factory installed -
or dealer installed moon roof - MOST were actually dealer installed -
and look virtually identical to the factory units -

if it IS dealer installed -
ASC is the brand name of MOST of the dealer installed units -

see if you can locate a local ASC installer - and ask them for an estimate -

oh - one more thing - if you DO get it open now -
you will NOT be able to get it closed - and sealed -

well, if the cable was broken then it will sound as if it fully opened but stayed close, my issue is its trying to open but actin as if it doesn't have enough force to push it open, thats what makes me think it is blocked by something.

for info, I got 4 buttons..
- open
- close
- vent
- auto <-- it switches green to red and vice versa.

The factory sunroof has 2 operating switches on the overhead console - a rocker on the right for VENT/CLOSE and a 3-position slide switch on the left for OPEN/EXPRESS OPEN and CLOSE. The headliner upholstered slide opens as the roof slides back and must be closed (slid forward) by hand.
