I have the problem with the security light sometimes going on and sometimes not. I read in the forum that a new key from the dealership might solve the problem as it might be the transponder in the original key is bad. Went to the dealership, had a new key cut, programmed new key by starting vehicle with original key, shutting off, then starting vehicle with the new key within 10 seconds. Drove around for about 15 minutes, went home. Next day, start vehicle with new key, security light comes on, shut off vehicle, pull key out and reinsert, restart, security light off. Pulled codes:
ALL: Y
ALL CODES: Y
ABS C1287 HISTORY
NO AMP, DDM, DDS, DIM, IPC CODES
IPM B0429 CURRENT
NO IRC, LRD
MSM B1860 HISTORY
NO PCM, PDM, RCC, RFA ,RIM, RRD, SDM, TTM
YTD B1009 HISTORY
ALL CLEAR CODES?

Just wondering what my next step might be

Thank you

Tim

My 2000 does the exact same thing. Has been for years. Some times it lights sometimes it doesn't. Usually if I have been using the car a couple of times a day after the first time it does it it will not do it again. I noticed in warmer weather it does it a lot less. If I put the key in and out a couple of times before I start it it will not light up. I just live with it as I never had a problem with it.

codes are meaningless without their DEFINITIONS -
and no one has them all memorized -

go here for the best list of Cadillac code definitions -

also include whether the codes are C-Current or H-History -

IPM B0429 CURRENT

Yea your codes are history with the only current one pertaining to the rear heat/ac. My car with the security light on does not have any codes associated with it (I don't think so anyway) however when you clear the codes from the onboard system the light does go out. So I don't know why the light goes out when you clear the codes when there are no codes to begin with that are associated to the security light.

Well, I guess I am confused,
I guess so -

the codes I listed do say Current or History,

YES - ALL codes are EITHER C-Current or H-History -

plus all it says are no codes
wrong -
SOME of the various categories have no codes -
while other categories DO have codes -

ABS C1287 HISTORY -
C1287 is a code -

it is a History code -

this means the steering wheel position sensor is failing -

----------------

IPM B0429 CURRENT

B0429 is a code -

it is a Current code -

the DEFINITION is
Temperature Control #3 Rear Circuit Range/Performance
this means the back seat AC temperature control doesn't respond correctly -
the solution is to replace the #2 mix door actuator -

-------------------

B1860 is a code -

YTD B1009 HISTORY
there is no YTD -
however - there is a VTD - Vehicle Theft Deterrent - catagory -
B1009 is a code -

---------------------

you might find this interesting and helpful -

Yup Bass your right as usual and I was wrong. I do get a VTD code anytime I check codes if my security light has been on. I never correlated the VTD code to the security light. (Da, what was I thinking)

read this, it may hold your answers
Thank you, the article was very informative, as I think this may be the problem. Since I am not a professional mechanic, and this fix is most like very expensive, I guess I will have to live with pulling the key out and reinserting it
Thanks again
