I had a 1980 couple deville and it got totaled. I really don't feel like dealing with old cars for a while. So, I've decided to try a 2000 Deville.

What are you opinions on the car? I've read reviews, but there by people who would drive the car for a week and write something about it.

I'm looking for opinions from people who actually would/have purchased the car and drive it regularly.

I like to read the reviews users post at www.carsdirect.com. There a usually some good ones there with both pros and cons.

I had over 50 2000 Devilles and I'll tell you that they are a HUGE improvement over the '99 and earlier cars BUT........I would suggest an '01 instead. We had quite a few "issues" with the first year car and I can tell you that many of them were addressed in the '01. Not ALL, but many were. Still, if I personally was looking, I'd avoid the '00.

Sounds a bit like a wilt chamberman quote. Anyways.. I bought a 2001 Deville in July. They are very nice. Had a steering clunk that we fixed by relubing the steering half shaft. Also had a raido/amp issue that a Tech2 didnt see. Disconnecting the battery fix that one. Else then that a great car.

Soon to be a bootleg DTS. Been working on the trim...done. Correct emblems ordered....done. Michilens came today..will be mounted Friday on the DTS rims. Paint!...next week!

Oh, I get it. Logan, I used to manage the 3rd largest limo fleet in the country. We were the #1 largest ALL CADILLAC fleet in the country too. So when I say I had over 50 2000 Devilles, I meant in the fleet, not "personally". Sorry, I figured you knew my background by now. I know you've been around here for a while and we both go back to the Cadillac Owners Group on Yahoo.

try getting a 2001 or 2002 Deville...it isnt wise to buy the first model year of a significant change. by the 2002 models cadillac worked out many little bugs that were present in teh 2000 models (first year of the newer generation deville).

I have a 200 Deville. I love it. Other than the crankshaft position sensor, I have had no real problems. My wife did mange to short out the interior lights. One of my reading lamps was loose and she stuck her finger in it to make it work. I have not been able to locate the fuse yet. The car rides like a dream. It gets good gas mileage and is more comfortable than any of the older Devilles or Sevilles I have ridden in.

Really the platform its based on, the Aurora platform, had already been around for awhile,and the Seville had already been riding on its own version of this platform since '98, so I think itd be wise to buy a 2001, but not terrible to buy a 2000. The major issues you will find actually apply to many years from beginning to now; this would be faulty crankshaft position sensors (replaced twice on my old 2001 STS), Intermediate steering shaft clunk as mentioned above and common to 80 percent or so of GM vehicles from 97-2002 or later, and MAYBE an case porosity problem with oil on some 2000 engines. Other than that its little things, but a black DTS in any year... BADASS car and great ride and comfort. you wont go wrong.

I have a 2000 Deville and love it. The crankshaft position sensors $300+, were a problem as soon as the warranty expired. Don't know why there wasn't a recall on them. Also have a problem with window regulators. They break and cost $287. This is a part that is poorly engineered. (Like the crank sensors)Lots of steel and a little plastic. The plastic breaks and the window quits working.

For the 7k miles I put on our 2000 Deville, I loved it. Totally problem free. Overall in the 28k we put on it during lease the only problems were engine mounts and the rear blower motor. I'd recommend it.

The all black loaded 2000 Deville (80k mi.)
that I drive is super clean and consequently I
am not inclined to dissuade admirers from
presuming that it is a much newer ride, due to
the consistent post 1999 body style.
It is safe to assume, in view of the harsh
reality that the 2000 was the first of the new
generation of Devilles in the post Fleetwood
era, that the 2001+2002 would have worked out the
initial bugs and kinks better. Nonetheless, it is a
sharp, fast and luxurious vehicle worthy of immense praise.
One note of caution, if you are not mechanically inclined
always check the forums before you approve the Dealer
doing work that you might not absolutely need.
I have learned that Esteemed Caddycommunity is an
intelligent, honorable and well informed one and as such,
it will serve you well.
