Low oil pressure light just came on. Stopped the car, then restarted, oil pressure light went out. Any idea why that happened? Going on a trip in a few days so I hope it's not a problem. Any input is greatly apprectiated.

2000+ seem to be prone to an oil pressure sender failure which manifests itself at hot idle.

The ONLY real, true way to confirm oil pressures is to hook up a mechanical gauge to the oil sender port, and that involves a mess and chassis hoist plus time, tools, and a gauge and proper hosing.

Oil level OK at halfway up the dipstick hashmark, 5W-30 ??

DO NOT dump in some "heavy oil" or magic oil potion: find the real problem.

:yeah:
I'd just replace the switch (only use an A/C Delco switch ).

Ranger, replace the oil pressure indicator switch?

Submariner409, the oil is half way up the hash marks and yes I use 5w-30.

BTW, it has not done it again. But only drove a few miles.

Yes, the oil pressure switch on the oil filter adapter (if the problem persists).
