Hey guys! Recently I traded my old 98 for explorer for my awesome Deville. However the my ac compressor recently began to shut off periodically. A friend looked at it and told me my clutch was loose. If I give it a love tap, it comes back on and stays on until the car is driven. Is there any way around replacing the compressor? If not, how do I remove it? I hate taking my cars to mechanics, i'd rather do the work myself if I can! If it helps, the cars has around 140K miles. thanks!

If you tap it and it engages, maybe the gap is too large. It should be .020 - .030. If the clutch IS bad, it can be replaced without replacing (or removing) the compressor, but it's tight and requires some special tools.

Not an easy job on the car but can be done. Specialty tools as Ranger said are required.
