1999 DeVille, A/C Problem

6543 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  cady97dev
I recently tried to charge my compressor with freon (the R-134A kind I think) and it took two cans but still wouldn't blow cold. I took it Firestone, and they got it to charge, but told me that the Orifice tube is clogged, which is why it won't blow cold. The manager told me I needed to get a new one or needed to get it cleared out.

Does anybody know anything about this? Is this something I can do myself or should I take it in to the dealer? Any recommendations? Thanks!

If the orifice tube is clogged, then it is likely clogged with debris from the compressor, which means you need a new compressor, accumulator and condenser and the rest of the system MUST be flushed.
Yikes that sounds expensive... Any suggestions for doing anything but taking it to the dealer?
Yup, probably will be expensive IF that is in fact the problem. You could also take it to an A/C shop.
Hey Sam...Look up acdiscountparts.com... I am a 97 Deville and i had a A/C problem. So i bought a kit from that company and it is working great!!! The kit was $295 and it cost $300 in labor...Good luck and hope it works out for you.
