We have a 1998 DeVille with the Northstar V-8 , when the car runs right it's a fantastic car. Electrical Gremlins show up and depart randomly.Lights flash on and off on the dash, electric windows quit working, brakes Lock up while you are driving, doors lock so you can't get in ,these and more are symptoms that appear and then disappear (if you turn the car off and on several times the problem usually.goes away). Sometimes you can drive the car for a week and it works perfectly. Anyone have any thoughts?

Welcome to the Funny Farm!!!

Sounds like engine or dash ground problems. Find and check the grounds for the engine and make sure the terminals are clean and tight. Outboard of the two front seating area footwells, behind the carpeted panels at the fenderwells, there are multiple ground box connections, studded to the fenderwell body metal. Check those. Some owners have resorted to installing individual ring terminals on the ground wires and studding those to the body.

Subscribe the car to www.alldatadiy.com - it's the online GM/Cadillac service manuals plus a LOT more. Or find a paper copy of the GM/Helm service manuals on eBay. Forget Haynes or Chilton - far too generic.
