Re: 1997 Cadillac STS Air Conditioning losing charge

It's gotta be going somewhere. I hear that using the leak detector, sometimes referred to sniffers, works great at pinpointing the leak.

Try the dye and pay particular attention to the water that comes from the drain tube..yellow dye in that water and you most likely need an evaporator..big job on your car if I remember correctly..Hopefully its something (anything) else

I had the same issue -- found that the schrader valve on the accumulator (where you charge it) was bad. It leaked VERY VERY slow, but it eventually leaked all out....Replacing that valve is easy, cheap and worth a try..

Replacing high and low side port valves is easy - if the system is completely discharged. Take one of those Schrader inserts out with a charged system and you stand a VERY good chance of losing an eye.

Otherwise, install good caps.
