Hi everyone. im new to he site and ive been looking around for a while but cant seem to find any posts to help me fix my issues. Not to long ago my horn would just go off at odd times whether i was in the car or not and would not stop untill i smashed in on the steering wheel and eventually had to disconnect the horn but more importantly my ipc display went in and out a few times now its just a blank screen. service light are still there but speedometer and message window on the bottom are gone. not fully understanding the electronics i tried going to a junk yard to find a replacement display. after putting it in the screen is now fully functional but if i try to start the car, the vats system keeps me out but did let me look up codes for the car since the old ones screen is blank i couldn't do this before the codes i got were:
PCM P0603- CONTROL MODULE LONG TERM MEMORY RESET (HISTORY)
PCM P1632- THEFT DETERRENT FUEL DISABLE SIGNAL RECEIVED (HISTORY)
IPC B1552- DATA AREA FULL (HISTORY)
IPC B2780- WRONG RESISTOR BEFORE GOOD (CURRENT)
IPC U1255- Class 2 Communication Malfunction (Serial Data Line Malfunction) (CURRENT)
RFA B2560- RKE Message Validation Error (HISTORY)

After getting the codes i put my old IPC in and the car still starts up.
Moral of the story i want the best of both worlds a car that starts and has the ipc display working but without paying someones a ton of money i dont have to do this for me. im hoping with all the intelligent minds on this site someone can help me. Thank you all in advance for your help.

you might try swapping just the circuit board from your old cluster -
into the replacement cluster -

Re: 1996 caddy deville need help please

Thank you basscatt i switched the circuit board and it worked great. turn the key and then display lit right up and the car starts but the old circuit board pulled up different codes 3 current issues includes:
PC0113 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage
RS0038 Electronic Level Control Exhaust Valve Short to Ground/Open
PZ2088 ???

just wondering if the first two are serious issues or not and hoping someone can inform me of how to find the PZ2088 code i searched all the dtcs pages on this site and couldnt find that one.. thanks again

glad it worked out for you -

the codes you saw were stored in the PCB from the old car -

I would recommend clearing all the codes -
and see what comes back -

so after clearing and re-running the scan it still pulled up those 3 current codes
PC0113 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage
RS0038 Electronic Level Control Exhaust Valve Short to Ground/Open
PZ2088 ???

Man, I didn't even catch that but was thinking the codes weren't from that car... I jus assumed an aftermarket radio bc I'm use to seeing problems with the IC after people swap a radio out

I shoulda went with my intuition (when i couldnt find the B1552 code in the service manual for that year car) but then again I shoulda Read more carefully too

Lesson learned sir

I have a 1999 Deville IC that's way nicer than my original... I wanna swap it but my friend says I can't bc the car wnt start.

Can I change a circuit board too or is it not worth the trouble???

What's "nicer" about it? The plastic? Just swap that.
The plastic, the buttons.
Mine has a few nicks and button wear
The other looks flawless... Like new.
I haven't messed with it or tried to take it apart bc I dnt wanna mess it up... Or the one I have in my car.

I jus dnt understand why they can't be swapped out... They look exactly the same but my friend says if I do that my car won't start. Something about security?

GM sure made stuff complicated with this Deville.

Are you saying you wanna swap your radio cause if you are when you put another original radio in there your gonna have to take it to the dealer for reprogramming possibly but the car not starting now that's just bull the only thing that's gonna happen is that your radio probably won't work and that's why you might have to take it to the dealer to program it to your specific car.

think of it this way -
in the cluster there are two circuit boards -
one is for all the display stuff - let's call it a DUMB board -
the other saves information - we'll call that one the SMART board -

the DUMB board knows nothing - remembers nothing -
and does nothing on it's own -
all it does is turn lights on - and off - as directed by the SMART board -

the SMART board retains all the specific information about the car -
the VIN - mileage - the security codes - all fault codes stored in memory - etc -

so - in Justin's car -
the DISPLAY board was defective - the lights wouldn't light up -
but the "SMART BOARD" still worked perfectly - so he used his SMART BOARD -
in the cluster with the good DUMB board -
----------------------

so - now you can answer your own question - RIGHT?

I jus dnt understand why they can't be swapped out...

OK - I'll help -

YES - they CAN be swapped -
IF you also swap the SMART board from your original cluster -

----------

---------------------
no one was talking about a radio -
the discussion is about the instrument cluster -

the factory radios with THEFT LOCK
store the car's VIN the first time it is turned on -

then it compares that stored VIN to the current VIN -
if the two don't match - the radio locks itself - and will not work -
until the old VIN is erased - YES - by the dealer - and the new VIN is stored -

pz 2088 current = loss of SDM serial communication -

SDM = Supplemental inflatable Module -

Submariner409 has a procedure that just might work to reset this code -

do a search for "air bag reset" - or something like that -

it comes up every few months - both here and in the Seville forum -

The black magic trick works for side impact and pretensioner codes, I don't think it will do anything for communication problems with the SDM.

Open the front doors, fully extend and retract both seat belts, and move both seats throughout their entire range of motion. Repeat several times.

Good info
But which is the Smart board or Dumb board???
