Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I'm looking for a 1993 Cadillac DeVille driver's door arm rest. The part number is GM 16667991 and the color is natural tan. If anyone has a new or used arm rest I am interested in purchasing it. I called GM and the part is discontinued. I don't know what else to do!

Thank you,

Hi,

I've tried e-bay with no luck.

Thanks
Hi guys,

I've tried a few junkyards and so far no luck. Thanks for the CAR link. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again for you help.
These style armrest are hard to find in good shape. Your best bet is to find the armrest caps that are molded to fit over your existing armrest. These are made from a thin ABS plastic and are painted to mated the interior of your car. I took a piece or vinyl off my broken armrest and had paint made to match. I sprayed the cap with bulldog paint adhesion promoter and then proceded to paint the cap. You then glue the cap over the existing armrest and then snap your courtesy lamps and windo/seat control panel back into place. If you take your time and do a good job painting, you will never tell it is a plastic cap. Good luck!!! Cadi197
I have a new armrest for a 1993 Deville driver's side tan in the box. $250.00

Glad I saw this post to remind me that I was going to modify one for the drivers side. I have not seen one yet for a "C" body that didn't break at the front on the inside. This was a poor design that was never corrected by Cadillac. Here is a place that sells the overlay molded piece matching the color of your interior. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FWD-ARM-RES...its=Make:Cadillac&vxp=mtr&hash=item5890652bd3 This is just a link to the color I have, do a search for the color you need for your interior.
If you look at the piece it is a mold with a thin plastic covering. What I did was have an upholstery shop cover all of the mold pieces with faux leather.

Looks and feels better than the hard plastic, and not as fragile

That'll work. Did you have to repair the plastic inner molded piece? If you don't mind me asking, how much did that set you back for each armrest?
I told the upholstery shop what I wanted not real sure on how they did it. They didn't do a great job but it is good enough until I can get a better shop to do it over again. It wasn't much, maybe $200 for all four doors and that included materials
I'm considering doing the overlay thing after I modify the basic inside molded piece otherwise it's time and money pissed away knowing what will happen if the inside isn't supported. I'll start a new thread when I get satisfaction of what I attempt will hold permanently. There just isn't enought support or strength on one of the inside corners at the front of the switch block. I don't like the hard feeling of the factory molded piece either, and I assume that is why they always crack. So maybe a thin piece of foam under the overlay will help.

are you sure the shell isn't fiberglass or something? maybe it could be strengthened with a dip in resin
You may also consider this if you are looking for something stronger than the normal overlay. It is a plastic armrest replacement and not an overlay. It is a little pricey but is stronger. I have one on the drivers door of my Diesel. Would have never bought it myself but it was already on the door panel when i replaced it. It actually is quite a good replacement and looks fine. (you can still tell it is not original if you look closely). It has also held up well. I was thinking of having one covered like ehall did.

I saw those awhile back, and noticed they also have a pair option for less than if you bought them individually. Unfortunately they have to be painted to match your interior. So that is an added expense again. The problem with upholstery shops where I live, they are all so damn high priced.
Used ones that aren't cracked are still out there but chances are won't match your color. A $20 can of vinyl paint will fix that tho.
