Looking at a 1992 Sedan Deville with 64k on it. What are some common issues or problems these cars have? I’ve heard they can be a nightmare. Thanks!

HI Adam, it is simply an old car, anything can go wrong. Check everything - coolant, brakes, engine oil, sound when running, leaks etc. I had to have repaired starter engine, alterrnator, power steering etc. On the other hand, to my knowledge, it is quite reliable old car, where no frequently repeating issues occur. Moreover a good workshop should be able to repair it. But what a rewarding, awesome ride!!!!!

My 92 Deville was my best car ever. Mine was still running great at 190k when a drunk hit it. It was starting to rust out anyway. They will rust if they are in the rust belt or ever sat on grass. If the Service Engine light isn't on that is a big bonus. If it runs and drives fine now it should continue to do so. I think the water pump design is weak and delicate. If I was buying one I would look for drips or signs that someone has messed with it. If it is sitting in a garage with no drips that is a bonus too. Loved that 4.9.

Caddys present some unique opportunities, a higher than average 1-2 owner car garaged/maintained better is what I see, been like that since I was a kid.
You can avoid $1000's in paint/interior work, compared to more 'popular' or cult classic junk.

Mechanically, they are old cars. You need to be mechanically capable and/or financially tolerant, a huge dose of both on those occasional 'bad' days.

It costs more to drive your 'passion', a lot more when they are new, and financials/timing cause a lot of 'missed' fun haha.
I'm just making up for that, they all hit a low point, and some beautiful iron can be found.

64k is essentially a 'new' car, for me, and it should look every bit of that, on a Cadillac.
How many owners, condition 0-100% 'like new', and asking price set the 'value'.
Mechanical quirks are the lumps you take with your passion for a certain model, the same can be said on brand new '0' mile cars.

the car is now 27 YEARS old -
for the first 10 or 15 YEARS the 1992 Deville was a strong - reliable car -
only a few mechanical issues come to mind -
fuel injectors - electronic struts and shocks - water pump - musty/stinky AC evaporator core -

the problem with a very low mileage - 27 year old car - is that MANY of the parts could still be original -

belts - hoses - fluids - that have NOT been RECENTLY replaced are LONG overdue -

all the rubber bushings in the suspension and mounts are probably dry-rotted -
start driving the car on a regular basis and you will quickly - develop squeaks - rattles - noises that weren't there -

bottom line -
this COULD be a terrific car that needs NOTHING for another 50,000 miles -
OR -
it COULD be an absolute MONEY WELL
that needs SOMETHING every time you take it for a ride -
